did it remind anyone else of the Sprite-thing from the ads?Quote:
There must have been drastic changes for loads of people to mention them. Were they improvements or errors of judgement on Peter Jackson's part? xxx

| I still can't get over how good the animators (and Serkis) made Gollum looked and acted. The interaction with the environment was very impressive. Theoden is the king of Rohan. I'm not too good with names either, but it's usually similar place names that get me. I didn't mind most of the changes. I was too 'in' the movie to care about any changes from the book (having not read the books for a while also helped). Although one thing I missed from the book was seeing the result of Legolas' and Gimli's competition. |

| I have to say I didn't actually enjoy the movie all that much. Having read the books I found some of the changes made seemed to be unnessesary and not very well handled. I agree with the exorcism bit - I felt that was a bit over the top. In the book (spoilers ahead for those who haven't read it!) Theodian wasn't actually possesed by the wizard guy (momentary slip of memory) but rather under his power/influence. I prefered the idea of gradually 'bringing Theodian back to reality from delusion' as used in the book rather than the whole 'possesion' thing. It just seems to fit in more with the story to me. I think the mood I was in when I watched it gave me a bit of a negative view tho'. It was pretty good, but it just didn't grip me the way the first movie did, but as I say, that could just've been my attitude at the time! Hopefully on a second viewing I'll get more out of it! I did think that the Glimli/Legolas interaction were great! hopefully we'll see more of that in the next movie too and also the whole friendship between Frodo and Sam. |

| Already saw it... twice! (Lucky me!) Totally agree with FeedMeTV: Quote:
(Bothered my friend senseless when I kept "flicking" Eowen on the second viewing )The "exorcism" of Theodin did seem a bit over the top, but in three hours of film, they simply didn't have the TIME to spend on doing it the "right way." Same with the Ents. There simply wasn't enough time for filmgoers to wait for the Ents to take three days (or more?) on the Ent Moot or even to assemble for it. The Hobbits may be "hasty" but we are, too, and PJ just had to allow for that. Mind, I didn't have these problems when I saw FotR because I had yet to read the book, but now that I have, I can see the changes immediately as the film unfolds. And, as a seasoned film fan, I know to expect such changes in works as epic as Lord of the Rings. In spite of my own misgivings, the film was really outstanding... at least as good as FotR... and deserving of several Oscars. The scope, the acting, the cinematography, the music, the SFX, even the extras are just breathtaking. See this film as soon as you can... and see it again. I KNOW I missed some things because of the crowd's excitment, laughter and outbursts. But it's all a plus.

| Seen it at last! There was less tension in TTT than FOTR, but it ploughed along at a fair old rate. Legolas' skateboard, I think would be better described as a snowboard. The highlight has to be the Ent's attack on Isengard. Their bowling action, wish they were playing for England The low point, for me, was Sam's final speech. |

I never saw LOTR in the cinema. I neva had n e intentions on watching n e of da films. i had the books and although considered reading them neva quite got round to opening them. In fact my mum, who if interested, will wait til i've read a book to read it...read it before me! My mum wanted the first film on dvd so being the loving generous son that i am i got it for her. but i fought mite as well take advantage of the special extended version. after watching it wit her i can confess im a changed man (Hallejuah!) I have watched the movie several times and the commentaries, documentaries etc. I fink i like the movies more dan her! i now seriously intend on reading the books 2You may be wondering wot is ur point? most of us ave done this? Well, being a true taurean, i am quite stubborn and once have made my mind on a topic tend to keep it. So it is rare that i change my mind so radically on a film. I give (and i no peter's bin wanting this... ) LOTR the thumbs up'Nuf ramblings... Mr.P:alienooh:

| I was of a very similar frame of mind. I'd never read the book, never even considered it, nor did I ever intend to see the film, but by February '02, long after the Oscar nominations had been announced and almost all of my friends had seen and raved about FotR, I finally decided, "Must be pretty good if I haven't heard ONE negative review and it got 13 Oscar nominations... may as well see it." I'm so stoked I did, too. The big screen is the best place to see these films. The bigger, the better, too. Bought the book after seeing the enthusiasm of the WETA guys (and the actors they brought) in San Diego at the con. They really juiced up the story for me, so I bought the book and read it, then bought the DVD as soon as it came out and watched the film again... I really can't get enough now. Better make plans to see tTT again! :rolly2: |

| Well I watched the film last night and I loved it. :rolly2: My sister went with me and she loved it too. It's just so much fun and now I can't wait till the third film. I thought about reading the book but my sis reckons I would need to read the Hobbit first then the books. Anybody any ideas/suggestions. Have the first one on DVD and cant wait till this one comes out. And hey, pkgrl, you're right the cinema is the best place to see it. Though maybe not as close to the front as I was, J |

| Advice on the best order to read the books is here http://www.ascifi.com/forums/showthr...hreadid=12608. The general conclusion is that the Hobbit makes a good grounding for LOTR, but not essential reading. I agree about sitting too close to the front. I was near the front and some of the travel scenes blurred and hurt the eyes in our Cineworld. |

| Thanks Ray Gower. I'm sure my dad has all the LOTR set as well as The Hobbit. It's quite funny when I think about it, my dad has had The Hobbit for years. As kids we used to look inside the cover at the map. Should have got into it then. Thanks again, and will let you know how I'm getting on. J |

| I've seen TTT twice now (once was NOT enough) and loved it -- which is especially strange since technically this film doesn't have a beginning or an ending. It starts right where it should (highly recommend that one review FOTR on DVD before seeing TTT), but then at some point -- just before the end credits -- it just sort of stops. Considering how frustrating it is to wait a whole week for the conclusion of something that ended with "To Be Continued," waiting a WHOLE YEAR is maddening. But then Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema are assured a big house come next December -- probably shortly after the release of the extended TTT on DVD ![]() Hmmmm, maybe there'll be lots of specials and making-ofs and interviews to tide us over in the intervening months ... |
