Is Trelane a Q? Hi folks! I have a question for you learned Star Trek fans! I once read somewhere (don't ask me where, I've slept since then...) that Trelane is considered to be the first Q that Star Fleet encountered... Is this correct? Thanks!

As a canon fact: No. Officially, he is not a Q, but he shares all the same qualities (a non-corporeal lifeform with the ability to change matter into energy.) Many fans believe that Gene Roddenberry based Q on Trelane. Many do consider him to be the first Q encountered. Also, some of the Star Trek books have written that he is a member of the Q, that will be where you read it. William Campbell, who played 'General' Trelane, Squire of Gothos, said in an interview, that he would like to think he was a Q.

I've read a couple of books that hinted at it but never said for certain. But there are clearly several species like Q. I remember in a Q book (Q squared I think it was called) There was another Omnipitent being far nastier than Q who had been banished. It's possible this could be the same race as Trelane.

There is a being in STTNG who seemed to have these abilities. I can't remember his name but he was impersonating a human male, married a woman who was killed in an alien attack on a colony planet and he killed all the members of that species everywhere in the galaxy in one instant of vengence. He, and a simulation of the woman lived on a small patch of green land surrounded by a devastated surface. He did have a conscience and regretted his action since his kind were loath to use their powers in the affairs of lesser beings..

I'd forgotten about him, but 'Star Trek' seems to like using these super all-powerful beings. Almost as much as they like using 'Nazis'! | |
