Major change of structure

I've been thinking recently about the structure of the chronicles-network.

I've been thinking about how the site is spread across the .net and .com versions of the domain, with a .co.uk version in the making for film.

The trouble is, it's .com's rather than .net's that really have the clout, and there is really little need to spread the site across multiple domains. In fact, it could actually be counter-productive.

So now I'm thinking of moving everything over into the .com domain - simplify everything, and make it all much easier to work and administrate. While it's great being able to say that I have a handful of sites that cover sff, I'm now thinking that I should make this place much more consolidated.

This message is therefore to invite questions on comments on the procedure of moving the forums and writing resources over to the .com version of the chronicles-network.

Re: Major change of structure

It wouldn't be down for long - simply a case of setting up the forum on the .com domain, then requiring a few minutes to download, then upload, the forum database to the .com domain. At worst - maybe a few hourse downtime if the datbase needs uploading via the host.

But that's ages! Where will I live in the meantime? I live here, don't you know.

I feel your pain, Esioul.

On the other hand, I think, Brian, that whatever is the easiest and most efficient is probably the best for the site. And that's really what's important. Just warn us ahead of time when and if you decide to do this, so that I won't come over here and find it down and panic.

Are you asking for tips to do this properly? I have some links to FAQ's that may be helpful. Let me know if you want to see them and I can post them.

Re: Major change of structure

I'm fine with moving everything.

It's more just a general warning, seeing if anyone has any objections, and whether there are any general concerns. The family goes away for two weeks in August, so I may indulge in some heavy site development then.
