In case anyone hasn't seen the film and is reading this thread, SPOILERS!! and if you are reading it STOP!! When the basilisk was listening out for Harry and he was trapped in that little grated off passage way and the basilisk was right near him I was actually almost holding my breath even though I knew that nothing was going to happen to him because I'd read the book! The Quidditch match was also a little better, this time I didn't notice any computerized players!

http://uk.imdb.com/Name?Coulson,%20Christian Everyone I spoke to that had seen this said that it was better than the first. I also found that hard to believe, but it's true. I agree about the wooden acting in the first film. They have more experience now, but there is the problem of them getting a bit too old now. The sequence you described in the Chamber of Secrets scared my 7 year old son, but that was the only part. I guess that's why it's a PG certificate. Go and see it now, if there are any seats left. I've not seen cinemas that packed out for quite a while. | |

Saw the movie before the book - and wasn't really comparing it to the 1st one - I saw them both the same weekend - gotta love Netflix! - anyway - there's a discussion in the 1st book/movie thread about Draco Malfoy and if he was presented well -- and it got me thinking about something as I was reading COS -- Lockhart -- did Kenneth Brannagh have this guy down to a T or what? He's such a dork in the book, and KB had that 'such a dork' just right in the movie -- (of course, seeing the movie first might have altered my perception - but, I stand by my opinion on this )Anyway -- I have one chapter in the book to read - then I'll be back to post more ---- where's everyone else??

You're right there H2. Kenneth Brannagh was exactly the right person for the role of Lockhart. He was fantastic. I had read the book before seeing the film but thought the film was quite true to the book. You obviously use your imagination while reading the book ie:- spiders, Aragog, Ron and his panic at the spiders. It just brought it all to life. I've seen the film quite a few times now. Love it that much!!!! (so does my 5 year old daughter) LOL annette

you know - I think my fave part, though, is when Harry hands the diary back to Lucius Malfoy and then throws the sock/book (book/movie) at Dobby -- that's just the funniest thing - and I don't really know why -- maybe it's the 'gotcha' of the 'bad guy' thing by Harry - but I just thought it was funny --

you mean when Dobby magic-smacks him? yeah - that was good too! Though - in the book Lucius gets tossed down a flight of stairs - in the movie he's just sent sliding down a hallway - I know, I know - money and stunt doubles - but still --- watching him fall down the stairs might have been a bit more 'satisfying' for Harry - but I think it was still good to see the guy go flying --- I'm still rolling from watching Kenneth Brannagh as Lockhart - b/c that is just about the best I've seen him in a long time. He does comedy so well - (Watch "Much Ado About Nothing" - that was really good too!) -- KB is quite talented and seems to get 'left behind' -- but, he had that role in "Wild Wild West" (who's idea WAS that movie?) - and that might have hurt him a smidge - but I think the HP role was quite good for him -- and I think if I'd been reading the book before I saw the movie, I might have pictured him in that role --- he's just so fun!
