Yeah right - I live *in* the States and can't go -- it's all the way on the other side of the country - and I just got back from Gatecon which = no money -- eh - guess I'll have to save my pennies for either ShoreLeave or DragonCon --- Not to mention Gatecon next year ---

Hasnt ShoreLeave already happened this year, or did you mean next year? I'm hoping to go to the SFX con next summer (will be my first one!) cos James went this year and it seems like a good time was had by all. I keep forgetting that the US is such a huge place, the travel cost itself would be huge, makes me kinda glad i'm in Blighty (cept for the weather )xxx

yeah - I meant ShoreLeave and DragonCon for next year -- ShoreLeave, I think, is in July, and DragonCon is Labor Day weekend -- Yeah - US is pretty big --- the mainland of the country has 4 timezones, and it's about a 5-hr flight from one coast to the other -- (there are two more - one for Alaska, and one for Hawaii - and just a bit of info - IIRC it's an 8-hr flight from Los Angeles to Hawaii) --

Strictly off the topic, but for info purposes - United States has 3,717,796 Sq. Miles or 9,629,091 Sq. Km. NY, NY to LA, CA is 2462 mi. (3961 km) (2139 nautical mi.) NY, NY to Honolulu, Hawii is 4968 miles (7996 km) (4317 nautical miles) NY, NY to Nome, Alaska is 3780 miles (6083 km) (3285 nautical miles) And those are by no means the outer limits, just some familiar landmarks. I've often said that people in Europe drive between countries as easily as we drive between states.
