*lol* not on the first four books being the best of the X-Wing series. On that I whole-heartedly agree. Although ya gotta love Face and Wes in the Wraith books. It's just on the fact that I didn't like Corran Horn during those first three books.

I think he was definitly one of them. He had a lot of depth that they don't often give to the evil characters in the books. Very cool that he was more of a stratigist rather than a brute force kind of guy.

I loved the detail that he learned about the societies he planned to infiltrate or destroy by studying their art work. Very intuitive.

He studied their approach to art (which says a lot about a culture) as well as the subject matter, style, and execution (including materials used) to see how they think. Art is a reflection of the culture. It told him how they approach things, what they think of issues, what their position is on war, freedom, slavery, etc.

Thrawn (as a character) was much smarter than me, so I wouldn't be able to do this nearly as well as he did, but that's the gist.

Personally, my favorite new characters from the EU are Talon Karrde and Mara. I like the smuggler types, I guess.
