I don’t think the writers understand how to work with a half hour format. They try to cram in lots of stuff that’s not necessary while ignoring any exploration of the actual concept behind the story. In an episode like, One Night at Mercy, I would have appreciated the whole episode taking place inside one room. And instead of spending so much time confirming Alexander’s character is death, they could have focused on the impact of one hospital patient, perhaps a young boy, instead of showing a burn victim for seven seconds.

The first story is that of a family with two teenaged daughters. One of them is a clichéd rebellious teenager named Jenna. The parents of this family move to a gated community where people are conditioned to become seemingly idealistic citizens. As usual, this tired surrealistic storyline deals with a dystopia maintained by the excessive removal of fun, independence, freedom and so on.

That's definitely a cliche'. It was done one season on the X-files. I don't know how many other shows & books it's appeared in, but I have seen that plot in a lot of fan fiction with no new twists.

I didn't watch it. I've seen the original Twilight Zone, though. The stories may have been new at the time, but some of those plots are now cliche's as well. There was one episode, IIRC, where a soldier had been put into a room or something as part of a deprivation experiment. His mind made up a fantasy where he was the last human being on Earth. So it wasn't really sci-fi, just an interesting story.

Well, maybe it'll get better. Some shows improve with time.
