Pyramid Mystery to be Solved!

In the Great Pyramid, there is one shaft that was discovered years ago, but no one has been able to get into it because it was too narrow. The shaft has a door at the end of it, which is 3 inches thick. Whatever is behind the door, if anything, will finally be found. They are finally going to send a robot into the shaft. It is the same type of robot used to search for survivors under the World Trade Center. It's going to be televised Monday night. Whatever may be found, I'll bet it's going to be cool.

Proof of ETs, maybe? Or long-lost secrets of the ancients?

Here's the National Geograpic link. I noticed their page says Tuesday at 1 am, but I think that's Egypt time, cause my local paper said it will be shown Monday on the Fox channel at 7 pm. That is the Minnesota time.

Please keep us posted on what happens, this really interests me as a mystery, but I don't get those channels.

I also haven't heard this anywhere else, even in the 'National Geographic' Magazine (which I get) -- though I'm sure it will be in there soon.

(It is printed quite a long way in advance. It was over a month before it mentioned '9/11' and it had to quickly change it's frontspiece for that.)

I too would be interested to know what they find, I love a good mystery .

Does anyone know if we can get this channel on sky TV here in England? If not does anyone know of any sites that will be keeping us up to date on the progress of the robot?

Ok so it looks like this will be broadcast on the National geographic channel, in which case anyone here in the UK with a Sky receiver is going to be able to watch it. I know what I'll be setting my recorder for

I will definitely be watching TV Monday night!

I'm sure if they find anything really interesting, it will be all over the Internet news sites as well.

Guess what they found...another sealed door behind the first! LOL...I think the ancient Egyptians must have had a great sense of humor.

And of course, it'll be ages before they find out what's behind the second door, because it'll be extremely difficult to get to it without destroying the first door, even with a robot.

Going spoiler mode

Yeah it's bloody typical that after all this time they should find yet another door behind the one that has been keeping them busy .

So what do we think lie's behind this last door? is it priceless treasure? Is it the answer to the question "Did we originally come from another planet?". Or is it yet another door and if so, could this be the Egyptian's warped idea of pass the parcel?

Whatever is behind that last door better be more than just a few broken pots, but knowing our luck that's all it will be.

The first hyperlink provided by Emily said the program was a live broadcast on Fox.
Did the program have a title?
I love ancient egypt and watch all the documentaries on our Uk digital channels (is that really sad?) anyway, I want to keep an eye out for it.

I think it was just "Mysteries of the Pyramids" or some such...very interesting. It was mostly filled with background info about what they've discovered about the pyramids so far -- which is pretty amazing, a little info on the Egyptian's religious beliefs, and some info on their previous tests with the robot rover.

They had drilled a hole into the stone door before the show, and fixed a camera to the rover. It took the rover over an hour to climb that path to the door. When it finally stuck the camera through the door, you could see a door of some sort behind it. I'm not sure how they could tell it was just a door & not a wall, but they could. It just looked like stone to me.

It was a live broadcast, so I don't know if it'll be re-run, but you may be able to find a tape of it somewhere.

It couldn't be a 'live' broadcast because I've now seen adverts for it, it's on tonight. But the door was opened last night, it was in all of todays newspapers and on the radio.

Bit of a let down really, they said we will have to wait until next year to see behind the next door.

They put a brave face on it though:

Quote:
Commentating live, director of Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities, Zahi Hawass said: "It's another sealed door ... This is very important."

Tim Kelly, president of National Geographic's television and film division, was similarly upbeat afterwards.

He told reporters: "I enjoyed the moment of discovery. We were not disappointed ... we were successful in our mission."
