*Airforce-Cemetry*

Snow was falling. The mourners had gathered together around the coffin. The Stars and Stripes were neatly draped, and flowers were lying next to the coffin. The family of the deceased were sitting on the right, the friends were standing on the left. Among them were Daniel and Teal'c. Sam was sitting on the right. Tears were running from her eyes. Jacob tried hard to comfort his daughter but it didn't make any difference. She had really loved him. They had made a special tombstone for him: 'You'll be in our hearts forever'.

The priest ended his prayers. Four pilots folded the flag and gave it to the family. It was over. He was now really gone. The people who had attended the funeral started to leave the cemetry, leaving four friends behind.
"I loved him so much, dad!"
"I know Sam! I know!" Jacob held his daughter in his arms.
"He was a great guy." Daniel tried to express his feelings. He felt so sorry for Sam. - Why did it have to end like this? They were about to get married. She was so happy. -
Teal'c kept silent. He had lost a friend.

Summary: Sam falls in love with a new SGC-member. They become the happy couple. But will it last forever?
Author's notes: I would like to thank Dena for helping me finish the story because I found out that I'm lousy in writing dramatic or even romantic stories. I also want to thank Sarah for beta-reading my story. I don't know what I would do without her. Feedback would make me very happy!

*The mess hall*

Just because it was a day of celebration soldiers had decorated the mess with garland and they had even left some space, which could serve as a dance-floor. General Hammond had prepared a speech but he noticed nobody was really listening. Apparently the champagne was more interesting then his words. Therefore he decided to keep it short.
"Good evening everybody! We're here to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the Stargate-program!" Everyone in the room applauded for General Hammond. "We're having this small party to thank you all for being here in both the good times, and the bad. You deserve it! Enjoy yourselves!" Again the crowd cheered and applauded loudly. General Hammond stepped away from the mic so that the DJ, a young soldier, could do his thing.
"Nice speech, sir!" O'Neill handed his General a glass of champagne, which he gladly excepted.
"Thank you, Colonel!" The General took a sip from it.

Daniel, Teal'c and Sam stood on the other side of the room. Daniel was teaching Teal'c how to drink his champagne.
"Sip! Don't gulp!"
Teal'c tasted the drink and decided for his own that he didn't like it so much.
"Daniel, who's that?" Sam pointed at a young man next to the door.
"Who?" Daniel was peering in the direction Sam had pointed.
"The guy who's standing next to the door."
"Oh! That's a new guy. I believe his name is Jason Thomas. Why do you want to know?"
"No particular reason." Before Daniel could ask any further, Sam had already left for the other side of the room. She didn't know why she wanted to get to know him.
"Hello there!" The young man was surprised. He had been standing there for almost an hour and no one had said anything to him.
"Hi!" He smiled.
"I'm Major Samantha Carter. I'm from SG-1."
"Oh, nice to meet you! I'm Captain Jason Thomas. I'm going to be a part of SG-9."
"You're new?"
"Yes, I arrived this morning." Sam noticed he wasn't drinking champagne.
"You want something to drink?"
"No, thank you. I don't like champagne."

Meanwhile on the other side of the room, Jack had joined the remainder of his team.
"Where did Sam go?"
"She's right over there." Daniel pointed at the door where Sam was talking to Jason.
"Who's that bean-stick?"
"That's Jason Thomas. He's new on the base."
"They seem to be enjoying themselves." Teal'c made this remark but Jack didn't like to hear him say that. The DJ had finally managed to get the installation working. He started with some up-tempo songs. Few people were dancing. Then he started to play a few slows. More and more people gathered on the dance-floor. Daniel walked away from his friends.
"Hey Danny, where are you going?"
"I'm going to ask Janet if she wants to dance with me. You should do the same with Sam."
"What?" Jack didn't seem to understand it. When he finally got the point he was too late. He saw Sam standing in the middle of the room, dancing with Mr. Bean-stick.
"Wow, you are a wonderful dancer!"
"Thank you! You're not bad either!" Jason and Sam were together all evening. So were Daniel and Janet. At midnight everybody went back to their rooms because there were some missions planned for the next day. Jason walked Sam back to her room.
"I had a wonderful evening, thank you!"
"Yeah, I liked it too! See you around, Sam! Goodnight!"
"Goodnight Jason!" He walked away. He had to find his way back to his room. He felt so happy that he had trouble sleeping.

*Sam's lab*

Jason hadn't heard from Sam since the night of the party. He was assigned to his new job and had already been on a mission, which had been a very exciting one. He had found some interesting soil samples and now he was on his way to his lab when an Airman approached him.
"Captain Thomas?"
"Yes, that's me."
"Major Carter is expecting you in her lab."
"Uh, ok. Where can I find her lab?"
"Shall I take you, sir?"
"Yes, that would be nice." The Airman guided Jason through the base right to Sam's lab. He stopped in front of her door.
"Here you go, sir." Jason nodded. He was still holding his samples when he knocked on the door and entered the lab.
"Captain Thomas, welcome to my lab."
"Major! You requested my presence?"
"Yes!" Sam looked at him. "Why didn't you tell me you were an astrophysicist?"
"You didn't ask." He smiled. - Ok, Jason! Ask her out! - "You want to see my samples?"
"I'd love to." Jason took the samples and placed them on the table. He was a little clumsy and dropped one. Both Jason and Sam bent to pick it up. They bumped into each other and fell to the floor. Sam started to laugh. She gave the sample back to Jason and added a kiss to it. He was surprised. - Ok, Jason! Now is the time to ask! -
"Uh, Sam..."
"Yeah?"
"Do you wanna go out with me? Sometime?"
"I'd love to."
"You would?" Sam nodded. "What about Friday? I know this cool place. We could have a drink and a dance."
"Sounds good to me."
"What do you say? I'll pick you up at 8?"
"That's fine by me." Jason left the room and started walking back to his lab. –Yes! I have a date! -

*Friday-evening*

Sam was getting ready to go out when Jack entered her room.
“Hey Carter, what’s up? You look as if you are about to go out.”
“As a matter of fact, I am.”
“With who?”
“With Jason.”
“With that bean-stick?”
“Jack!” At that moment Jason knocked on the door. He did what Jack hadn’t done; wait for Sam to open the door. He waited politely at the doorstep. When he noticed Jack he greeted him.
“Good evening, Colonel O’Neill.”
“Good evening, Captain Thomas.”
“Are you ready to go?”
“Yes, I am.” Jack suddenly got the distinct feeling he wasn’t wanted.
“Shall we?” Jason held up his arm. Sam grabbed it and they left the room. Jack followed them into the hallway. He saw them disappear behind the corner. He turned around and almost bumped into Daniel who was standing right behind him.
“Wow, Danny-boy! You scared me! How long have you been standing here?”
“Just long enough to see that you don’t like Jason.”
“Oh right! Well, you’re right. I don’t like him. There’s something about him but I don’t know what it is.”
“Now, you’re starting to see ghosts, Jack.”
“Yeah, what ever!” Jack went along, leaving Daniel behind.

*Downtown Jack*

Sam had been silent all the way to the bar. But once inside, she didn’t stop talking. It wasn’t crowded so they had a chance to talk to each other.
“So Jason, tell me! How did you end up on the project?”
“Probably the same way you did. I wrote an essay about black holes.”
“You’ve just graduated?”
“Yes, but before I studied astrophysics I studied archaeology.”
“Then you must know Daniel Jackson?”
“No, I’m sorry. I studied in Europe.”
“Europe?”
“Yes, my father is stationed in Belgium. He has to guard the nuclear weapons that are stashed there.”
“Oh, so you grew up in Europe?”
“Yes, I did. But I wanted to join the airforce so I had to come back to the States.”
“How was your life in Belgium?”
“Completely different then over here. Belgians are sometimes strange people. They are very…independent. I wouldn’t call them selfish exactly, but if something were happen to their neighbours, most of them wouldn't care about it. Of course they are not all like that. I've still got some very good friends living in Belgium. I keep in touch with them on a regular basis." Then they were silent again. "But what about you? Tell me something about yourself!"
"Where do you want me to start?"
"I don't know! What about your family?"
"There's not much to say about them. I have a brother. His name is Mark. He's married and has two kids. My father lives amongst the Tok'ra." Sam waited for a reaction, but it didn't come. - Apparently he doesn't mind dad being a Tok'ra. -
"Now, why don't you tell me your experiences with the project through the years? You must have some great stories to tell! Or isn't this the right place to talk about it?"
"No, it's ok." Sam took a deep breath and started telling about the past 5 years. She told Jason about her first trip, Jolinar, Thor, Cassandra and many of her other adventures. When Sam was done talking she noticed that Jason was staring at her. "What? Is something hanging out my nose?"
"No! I was just thinking that you are a remarkable woman." He smiled at her. Then he asked Sam to dance. They danced all night. When they returned to the base they stopped to look at the full moon.
"Isn't she beautiful?"
"Mmm." Jason turned his face to Sam. He kissed her gently. She returned his kiss. It was a magical moment for the both of them. Back at the base he kissed her goodnight and went to his own quarters.

They started to see each other more and more. Everybody on the base knew about their relationship. All of Sam's friends were happy for her, except Jack. He had become the most jealous man on earth. He tried to avoid his 2IC every time her and Jason were together.

*The commissary*

Jason's team had been on a mission. It hadn't been a successful one. So he had some time to take a break in the mess. He was drinking a cup of hot coffee when Daniel came in and sat himself down in front of Jason.
"Hey Jason! How was your trip?"
"Hi Daniel! It was boring. There was absolutely nothing to see or do." Jason noticed that Daniel was in a happy mood. "What's up with you, man? You look so happy!"
"I'm in love!"
"In love, you say! I can imagine your happy, then! Who's the lucky woman?"
"Dr. Fraiser!"
"Nice! What do you think about a double date? Let's say Friday!"
"Sounds good to me!"
"We can go to the movies and have a drink afterwards."
"Yes, that sounds like a good idea."
"Ok then, I'll see you on Friday! I have to go now. My soil samples are waiting for me."
"Ok, see you on Friday!" Jason left the mess and bumped into O'Neill.
"Oh, I'm sorry, sir! I didn't see you coming."
"Yeah sure! Don't you have to be somewhere?"
"Yes sir!"
"Then go, and use your eyes next time!" - Annoying bean-stick - Jack entered the mess and left Jason in the hallway. - Man, was he cranky or what! -

*Friday-evening*

The two couples had agreed to meet each other at Sam's place. Jason had arrived an hour early. He had brought Sam a gift.
"Come on, open up!" Sam turned the little black box in her hands. She looked at Jason.
"What is it?"
"Open up and you will see what it is!" Sam opened the box slowly. A shining necklace appeared.
"Oh Jason, it's beautiful!"
"Come on, put it on! Let me help you!" Jason placed the necklace around Sam's neck. He first had to remove her tags.
"Let's see how it looks on you!" He guided Sam to a mirror.
"Thank you, Jason! It's magnificent!" Sam kissed Jason. Then they heard knocking on the door. Jason reluctantly went to open it.
"Hello Daniel! All set for the evening?"
"Yes, but I'm nervous."
"Don't be! It'll be fun!" Daniel nodded. He looked at Sam and saw the necklace.
"Wow, Sam, that's a beautiful necklace!"
"Jason gave it to me." Daniel looked at Jason and gave him a friendly smile.
"Jason, you know how to make a woman happy!"
"Thank you, Daniel! But I'm sure that you've got that gift too." Daniel smiled. Suddenly there was a soft knock on the door. This time it was Sam's turn to open the door. Janet was standing on the doorstep. She looked nervous.
"Come on in! Daniel is already here." The two women walked into the living room. As soon as Janet appeared into Daniel's view, his mouth fell wide open. Jason had seen it and gave him a little warning.
"Daniel! Your mouth!"
"Oh, I'm sorry!" He closed it before they had seen it open. "You look beautiful, Janet!"
"Thank you!" If Jason and Sam hadn't known any better it looked as if Daniel and Janet were blushing.
"Ok, we're complete so we can leave the premises!" They drove off in Jason's car, Daniel in front so that the two women could sit together in the back.

*The movie theatre*

They arrived in time to choose a film. They had the choice between the 'Moulin Rouge' and 'All you need'. It took them a while to agree but finally Jason and Daniel bought two tickets each for the 'Moulin Rouge'. Before they entered the theatre they bought two large popcorns and four cokes.

They left the cinema with eyes looking reddish. When they saw each other they started to laugh.
“I didn’t know you were such a softy, Jason!”
“Daniel cried a lot more than I did.”
“That’s not true!”
“It was just such a beautiful love story!” They all agreed with that.
“Let’s go to the Downtown Jack! It’s a cool place.” They stepped back into their car and drove off to the bar. They drank and danced all night.

*The Base*

Jason and Sam were a little late at the base. They had spent the night together and someone had forgotten to set the clock. They both rushed through the halls to meet with their teams.
“I’ll see you later!”
“Yes, my lab!” The hall split up in ways. Jason kissed Sam quickly and then took the left hallway. She waited until she couldn’t hear him anymore and then took the right hallway. There she bumped into Dr. Fraiser.
“Oh, I’m sorry! I didn’t see you!”
“No, you were looking at someone else.” Sam smiled sheepishly.
“Uh, I really have to go. I’ve got to prepare for a mission.” Sam waved Janet goodbye and ran to the dressing room.

*The Dressing room*

When Sam finally reached the dressing room, she noticed that her team members were already ready to go.
“I’m sorry! I’ll be right up!”
“Take your time, Major! We’ve got another ten minutes considering the fact that SG-9 is coming with us.” Sam looked at her CO. “Didn’t you know?”
“No, I didn’t. I mean, I forgot. Sir!” Jack left the room leaving his kids alone. “Is something wrong with him?”
“He’s just jealous.”
“Jealous? Of who?” Sam looked at her friends, from Daniel to Teal’c. “Of me?” Daniel nodded and then he left the room, but turned quickly at the doorway.
“No, not of you. Of Jason.” Sam changed quickly and then headed for the gate-room. - The Colonel, jealous of Jason? Why? So that’s why he avoids me so much. I thought I had done something wrong on one of our missions. -

*The Gate-room*

Both SG-1 and SG-9 were standing in the gate-room when Jason and Sam entered. The dialing had already started. Dr. Fraiser was standing in the gate-room giving Daniel some last instructions. He had to bring back some plants she thought might come in handy. Only Sam and Jason knew why Janet was really there. The couple tried to hide their relationship, But Daniel and Janet’s relationship was as well known as Sam and Jason’s. The gate opened with its recognizable kawoosh and the teams stepped through.

*P5X-181*

The planet had served as a Goa'uld-planet but, for some strange reason, they had left it. As soon as they came trough the Gate they saw a deserted village. Daniel got excited and ran off. When he reached the village he turned around and started waving at them.
"Hey guys, you've got to see this!" The two teams hurried up and soon they were all staring at a big statue.
"What is it?" O'Neill looked at his archaeologist.
"That's Anubis. He's probably a System-Lord. In Egyptian mythology he's the God of the Realm of Dead. We don't know so much about the Goa'uld itself."
"So, you mean that we haven’t met him yet."
"No, we haven’t."
"Good! I wish to keep it that way!" O'Neill started to look around the village. In the meantime Jason had discovered some interesting stuff regarding the statue.
"Hey Daniel! You've got to take a look at this side of the statue. I think who ever lived here left a message." Daniel walked over to Captain Thomas. Sam, who was collecting some samples, accompanied him. He took his camera and started filming the writings so he could study them back at the base.
"Major Carter! Where are you?" Sam appeared from behind the Anubis-statue.
"I'm right over here, sir."
"We need to set up camp."
"Yes sir." Sam followed her CO to the place where they were going to set up their camp. SG-9 had already finished the job. Sam placed her tent next to Jason's. Jack noticed, but he kept his mouth shut after Daniel had given him a warning glare.
For lunch they ate their military meals. Two members of SG-9 took the first watch. Sam and Jason were sitting next to each other. They were giggling and laughing. It annoyed Jack so much that he turned his back on the two lovers.

In the afternoon they continued their research in the village. They found some very interesting things about the inhabitants and several images of Anubis. Daniel concluded that he must have been very important to the village. At the end of the afternoon Teal'c made an interesting discovery.
"Colonel O'Neill! Dr. Jackson!" Jack and Daniel ran to the place where they heard Teal'c's voice coming from. The Jaffa had entered some sort of temple.
"What is it, Teal'c?"
"Look, Dr. Jackson! I think I have found the reason the former inhabitants of this planet left." The three men saw a dead body lying in the middle of the room. It was right on top of an Ankh.
"Daniel, what is this?"
"It looks like a sacrifice but it seems that the body is completely dehydrated. And why it is lying on an ankh, I don't know either. The word 'ankh' is ancient Egyptian and means 'live'." Jason had found the temple as well and entered it. Seeing the three men he stopped.
"What's up, people? You've found...something... What is that?" He stepped towards the body but Teal'c stopped him.
"I think it's better if we leave this place." O'Neill left the temple and started to gather his things. Daniel took the time to film the place so that he could try to find a solution when he was back in his office on Earth.

At 1900 hours they were all ready to go back home. The Colonel of SG-9 dialed out. They send their signals through and stepped through the Gate. Before Jason stepped through he gave Sam a kiss on the cheek.
"See you later, honey!"

*The Control-room*

"Incoming wormhole! Incoming traveler!" General Hammond rushed into the control-room. Lieutenant Simmons had closed the iris. When the signals of SG-1 and SG-9 came through, he opened it again so that they wouldn't get squished. Hammond went to the gate-room and welcomed his teams back home.

*The Gate-room*

"Welcome back SG-1 and 9! Report to the infirmary. Debriefing at 2100 hours." Both teams left the gate-room and went to the infirmary for their medical check-up.
"Major Carter, do you have a minute?"
"Yes sir!" Jason walked in the hallway but waited right around the corner. Sam turned around and went back to General Hammond.
"We received a message from your father. He's coming to visit you tomorrow." Sam started to smile.
"Thank you, sir!" Sam walked out of the gate-room and bumped into Jason. "I've got news for you."
"Good or bad?"
"My father is coming tomorrow."
"Ok, that's bad news. Or is it?" Sam smiled and pulled her boyfriend to the infirmary.

*The Infirmary*

"Ah, there you are!" Dr. Fraiser had waited for her two friends.
"Sorry, but dad is coming tomorrow!" Sam sat herself down on one of the beds. Jason placed himself next to her.
"Uh Captain, you'll have to wait a minute!" Jason looked sad but Janet chased him out. "Go talk with Daniel for a while!" Jason jumped off the bed, kissed Sam and went to Daniel.

"Hello!"
"What have I heard! Is Sam's dad coming?"
"Yup!"
"Aren't you nervous?"
"Why should I be?"
"Jacob Carter isn't an easy person to get along with." Jason looked at Daniel not believing what the archaeologist was telling him.
"Daniel, come a little closer for a second!" Daniel moved closer to Jason. The Captain dug up a little black box out of his pocket." Do you know what this is?"
"Mm yeah, a little black box." Jason opened the box and then Daniel saw what his friend really meant.
"I'm going to ask her father for approval first."
"It's huge!" Daniel was astonished.
"I hope you can keep a secret!" Daniel nodded.
"Ok, Captain Thomas! Your turn!" Dr. Fraiser appeared from behind the curtain followed by Carter.
"I'm coming! Sam, I'll see you later in your lab!"
"We have a debriefing first!"
"Oh yeah, that's right! Forgot that for a minute!" Daniel and Sam left the infirmary to get themselves ready for their debriefing, leaving Jason in the caring hands of Dr. Fraiser. As soon as he was sure that Sam wasn't in the neighbourhood anymore, he decided to ask Janet if Sam would like the ring.
"Doc, can I ask you something?"
"Mm, sure." Again Jason dug the little black box up and showed Dr. Fraiser the ring.
"Do you think Sam will like it...if she says yes?" Janet looked at the ring.
"Jason, that thing looks expensive!"
"Yeah, but will Sam like it?"
"Yes, she will. When are you going to ask it?"
"Tomorrow evening, during a candle-light dinner on top of Cheyenne Mountain."
"How romantic!" Janet smiled at him.

*Sam's Lab*

The debriefing had been one of the shortest ones in debriefing history. General Hammond had agreed to a further exploration and research.
Sam and Jason had left very fast and were now working with their samples.
"Sam?"
"Mm."
"Does your father know you have a boyfriend?"
"Not yet!"
"Now that makes me feel awfully nervous."
"It won't be that bad. He's a nice man."
"How do I have to introduce myself? Like this?" Jason stood up from his chair and started talking to an invisible man. "Hi, Mr Carter! My name is Jason Thomas and I'm your daughter's boyfriend!" He had made Sam laugh out loud.
"Jason, my dad is a General!"
"What! Oh no, now I'm going to die."
"Oh, poor guy!" Sam pulled him closer. "You promised Daniel you would help him with his translations tomorrow. I'll tell dad who you are, ok!" Jason nodded. Then they kissed each other long and tender. It was Jack who interrupted their tender moment. Jason decided to leave the two team members alone.
"See you tomorrow, honey! Love you!" He kissed Sam and went to his own lab. He needed to pay General Hammond a little visit anyway.
"So, what were you doing?" Jack sat himself down on the chair Jason had been using the minute before.
"We were analyzing our samples."
"Found anything interesting?"
"Yes and no. But sir, if you don't mind, I have work to do."
"Oh well, goodnight then!" Jack left at once, leaving his 2IC alone with her samples.

*Daniel's Office*

"Good morning, Daniel!" Jason walked into Daniel's office with a big mug full of coffee.
"Morning, Jason!"
"Found something?"
"Yes, but I still have some problems translating certain pieces."
"Well, let me see!" The two men got lost in their work. They forgot time completely. Suddenly they were pulled back into the world of the living when the alarm of the Gate activating went off.
"That must be Sam's father. I'd better get going then."
"Good luck, Captain Thomas!" Jason looked at Daniel and then he went to the Gate-room.

*The Gate-room*

"Jason, what are you doing here?"
"Well, I'd rather choose a quick death than a slow one." Sam smiled.
"It'll be just fine. Don't worry..."
"Be happy! Yeah, I know!" Sam took Jason's hand and gave it a little squeeze.

The iris had been opened and Jacob stepped through.
"Jacob, it's good to see you!" General Hammond gave his old friend a handshake he wouldn't easily forget.
"Sam!" He gave his daughter a friendly but loving hug.
"Hi, dad!" Jason started to feel very uncomfortable. "Dad, there's someone I'd like you to meet." Sam turned to Jason, grabbed his hand and pulled him closer. "Dad, this is Captain Jason Thomas. He's my boyfriend." Jacob looked surprised. His daughter had a boyfriend.
"Hello, sir. Nice to meet you! I have already heard a lot about you!"
"No doubt, you have!" Suddenly it was Selmak who started a conversation.
"And what about me? Have you heard about me?" Jason was a little surprised seeing Jacob but hearing the Tok'ra speak.
"Uh, yes sir, I have heard about you too." With that Selmak seemed happy and he gave Jacob back full control of his body.
"May I interrupt for a second?" General Hammond didn't want to interrupt but he needed to say a few things.
"Ofcourse you may, old friend!"
"Major Carter! Captain Thomas! You can both take the day off so that you can spend some time with General Carter."
"Thank you, sir!" the trio left the gate-room and went to Sam's lab.

*Sam's Lab*

"I have to finish this analysis and then I'll be ready to go."
"Take your time, Sam! I don't have to be anywhere!" Sam moved on with her analysis, forgetting the two other people in the room.

"So, Captain, why don't you tell me something about yourself!"
"Uh well, I'm a Doctor of both Archaeology and Astrophysics. My father is a member of the US Army. He's stationed in Belgium, in Kleine Brogel."
"So, the army is a part of your family."
"Yes sir!"
"I have to take these results to Daniel. When I'm back we can go home."
"Ok, that's fine!" Sam left, leaving Jacob and Jason alone. - Ok, Jason! Now would be a good time to ask! -
"Uh sir, can I ask you something?"
"Yes, you can!"
"Sir, I love your daughter very, very much." - Oh no, he's going to ask for my blessing! - "I would like you to give your blessing to a possible wedding!" - I knew it! - "Sir, if you don't give your blessing then I won't ask Sam to marry me. But then I'll be obliged to ask for a re-assignment because I can't live without your daughter." - Slimeball! He's a good kid, Jacob! Selmak shut up! -
"Captain, let me think about it, ok!" Jason nodded.
"Ok guys, we can go now!"

The trio left the base and drove off in Jason's car. They stopped to eat a snack. Jason paid the bill. After that they drove to Sam's house.

*Sam's Place*

They sat themselves down in the living room. Jason decided to make some tea so that Sam and her father had time enough to catch up with each other.
"How's your work going?"
"Oh, it's going good. The soil samples I got from the last planet we visited were pretty interesting."
"What about Jason? Where did you meet him?"
"He's such a cute guy. I met him on a party at the base. He's kind of new. And he really has a lot to learn."
"Yes, that's true. But I learned a lot already. Thanks to you, honey!"
"From which team are you a part?"
"SG-9, sir." Jacob could see how much his daughter loved this man. - You should let them marry! They're such a cute couple, as you would say. Selmak, didn't I tell you to keep your nose out of my business? Ok, fine by me! But...! SELMAK! -
"How are the Tok'ra?"
"They're doing fine. It has been quiet lately." Then they fell silent again. The clock in the room struck five.
"I think it's time for me to go now."
"But we haven't had the chance to talk about everything I wanted to talk about!"
"I know. But why don't you write me a letter."
"Huh? A letter through the Gate?"
"Yes, I'm sure we can arrange that. And I guess I'll be back soon." Jacob looked at Jason and smiled. Jason smiled back. They all stood up and went outside. They got back in Jason's car and drove back to the base. Sam and her father chatted about all kinds of things the entire way back to the Cheyenne Mountain-complex.

*The Gate-room*

The dialing was in progress and not much later the Gate opened with its well-known kawoosh. Jacob said goodbye to General Hammond, then he gave Sam a huge hug.
"See you next time, my little one."
"Goodbye Jason, it was nice to meet you!" Jacob went up the ramp but turned around before he stepped through the event-horizon. "Captain Thomas, you have my blessings! And take good care of my daughter, will you!" Jason smiled and nodded in agreement. Jacob stepped through and the Gate closed. Sam kept staring at it.
"Sam, are you alright?"
"Yes, I am."
"You want to go for a walk on the mountain?"
"Mm, yeah!" The couple walked out of the gate-room. General Hammond followed them for a while.
"Don't get lost, Captain Thomas!"
"I won't, sir!"

*Cheyenne Mountain*

It was a beautiful evening. The moon was shining like it had done on their first date. They finally reached the place Jason had chosen for their intimate dinner.
"Are you hungry?" Sam looked at him and then back to the table. It was set with two burning candles. A young waiter, whom Sam recognized an airman, was standing next to the table. "Come on, let's see what they are serving today!" Jason politely helped Sam with her chair. He sat himself down at the other side of the table and nodded to the waiter. The airman placed two plates in front of them.
"Pancakes!"
"I hope you like that."
"Yeah, I do!"
"Oh, don't eat to much. There's also some dessert." They started their meal. Jason finished rather fast. He felt a little nervous. - Shall I ask her before or after desert? What if she says no? Come on, Jason! You can't give up now! - He dug out the ring and waited until Sam had finished.
"That tasted good!" Jason stood up and moved towards Sam and knelt down next to her. He took her hand in his and took a deep breath. "Jason, what..."
"Dr. Samantha Carter, Major in the US Airforce, will you marry me?" Sam looked at the ring he was holding and then to him. - Oh God, did he just propose to me! He did. He really did. - "Please Sam! I asked your father for his approval because I wanted to make sure that he wouldn't object. And I love you so much that I can't live without you anymore. So, will you be my wife?" Sam started to smile.
"Yes Jason, I'll marry you." He placed the ring around her finger and then they kissed.

It was getting colder and they decided it might be better to go back to the base. Jason would treat Sam for desert in the commissionary. The airman had left a little earlier so that the entire base already knew what had happened on top of the mountain.

*The Commissionary*

They were all there, Daniel and Janet, Teal'c, Hammond, Jason's teammembers. Except Jack, who was nowhere to be seen.
"Congratulations, Sam!"
"Thank you, Daniel! Have you seen Jack?"
"No, I haven't seen him today."
"Oh, ok." They all ate ice cream. Jason and Sam were sharing one bowl. Everybody could see how deeply in love they both were. It was also the first time that Daniel and Janet showed their love in front of everyone.

*Three weeks later*

Jason was staring at the Gate. He missed Sam. SG-1 had left on a mission 2 days ago and they were not due back until tomorrow. SG-9 had to visit this strange planet where weird plants were growing. They didn't know if there were any inhabitants. The Gate opened and SG-9 stepped through the event-horizon.

*P2X-311*

The sky was blue. Jason could hear some birds singing somewhere in the distance. They secured the area and then started to look around. It looked peaceful but Jason couldn't explain the strange feeling he had.
"Captain, something wrong?"
"I don't know, Colonel, but I keep hearing this weird buzzing sound. Its coming from our left." The Colonel tried to catch the buzz but he didn't hear anything like it. Suddenly a whole bunch of bees flew over them. They flew past, paused mid-air, then turned and came straight for SG-9.
"Oh my God! They're coming straight at us! Captain, dial us out of here!" Jason ran back to the DHD and started dialing out. The Gate opened and the Colonel sent their signal.

*The Control-room*

"Incoming traveler! Incoming wormhole!"
"Any teams scheduled to come back, Lieutenant Simmons?"
"No, sir. The iris is closed, sir!" - I can see that too, Simmons - The computer picked up SG-9's signal. "It's SG-9, sir!"
"Open the iris! Get a medical team in that room right now!"

*The Gate-room*

While SG-9 was coming through, a medical team rushed into the gate-room.
"Close the iris! Close it!" The Colonel of SG-9 was yelling to General Hammond.
"Close the iris, Lieutenant Simmons!" The iris closed behind them. They could hear the bees squish themselves against it.
"What are that, Colonel?"
"Killer-bees, sir!" SG-9 were taken to the infirmary. It wasn’t for another hour that they were allowed to leave again.

*The Briefing-room*

"Now, tell me! What happened on that planet?"
"We don't know, sir. Captain Thomas heard the buzzing first. The swarm flew overhead a moment later, then they turned around and started to attack us." - Damn, it's hot in here! -
"Captain Thomas, are you alright?"
"Uh! Yeah, it's just so hot in here." General Hammond looked to Jason and then to Dr. Fraiser.
"It's not hot in here, Jason."
"It's not?" Janet walked over to Jason and placed her hand on his forehead.
"You have a fever. You'd better get to the infirmary right now, Captain." Jason stood up from his chair. The room started to turn faster and faster. He heard a voice coming from far away asking him if he was feeling all right. Then everything went black.

*The Infirmary*

Jason was running a dangerously high fever. He was delirious. Dr. Fraiser was standing next to his bedside when General Hammond entered the room.
"How is he, doctor?"
"Not good. Apparently one of those bees has stung him. It injected a poison into his body that I have never seen before. I really have no idea what to do sir. You'd better call Sam back because this isn’t looking so good." General Hammond nodded and looked at Jason. The Captain was talking gibberish to someone who wasn’t really there. Then he fell silent again and seemed to have fallen into a restless sleep.
"Airman!" The airman at the door came in. "Go and get me Colonel Makepeace! Tell him it's urgent, a matter of life and death!"
"Yes sir!" The soldier ran out of the infirmary.
"I'll be in my office. If there is any change, good or bad, then notify me immediately" Janet nodded and Hammond left.

*General Hammond's 0ffice*

Colonel Makepeace knocked on Hammond's door. He heard the General's voice and entered.
"General, you requested my presence?"
"Yes Colonel, take a seat."
"Is something wrong, sir?"
"I’m afraid so, Son. Your team is to go through the Gate and relieve SG-1. Captain Thomas has poisoned by some sort of alien bee. Dr. Fraiser does not think he will make it. She asked me to get Major Carter back as soon as possible. You and your team will be leaving within the hour." Colonel Makepeace saluted and left the office.

*P2X-124*

The Gate opened with a kawoosh. SG-1 had seen it and had taken cover because you never knew what was coming through that Gate. When they saw the team coming through they came out of hiding.
"Colonel Makepeace, what are you doing here?" Colonel O'Neill shook the hand of his colleague.
"We're here to relieve you. Your team has to return at once."
"Why?" Major Carter started to this strange feeling as if something was wrong.
"Major Carter, Captain Thomas is..."
"What is wrong with him?"
"He was been stung by a bee on a planet full of weird plants and animals. He's been poisoned and it doesn't look too good."
"No, not Jason! We have to get back, right now!" Sam started to gather her things and was the first one who was ready to go back to Earth.
"Daniel, dial out, will you!" Daniel started to dial out. Jack hadn't moved an inch.
"Colonel O'Neill, are you not coming home with us?"
"No, I'm not coming. I want to finish this job before I go home. There's probably nothing we can do at the base but wait."
"Sir?" Sam was confused to see that her CO was not going home with them. - Why is he acting like that? - The Gate opened and Daniel send their signal through. Teal'c and Daniel stepped through the event-horizon.
"Major, go! And that's an order! You heard Colonel Makepeace, it's a matter of life and death!" Sam looked at Jack and then turned around. Tears were running down her face. - Jerk! -

*The Gate-room*

General Hammond was waiting for his first team to return. They came through and the Gate closed behind Major Carter. Sam dropped everything she was carrying and ran to the infirmary.
"Where's Colonel O'Neill?"
"He did not wish to come back with us, sir."
"Sir, what happened to Jason?"
"SG-9 went to P2X-311. There they encountered a race of killer bees. One of these bees has stung Captain Thomas. He became ill right after the team got back. He's running a high fever. Dr. Fraiser doesn't know what to do and his situation is getting worse every hour."

*The Infirmary*

Sam had run as fast as she could to be with her fiance as soon as possible. Dr. Fraiser had stopped her before she had the chance to see Jason.
"Woah Sam, not so fast. Let me explain first what's going on with Jason." Dr. Fraiser pushed Sam in the nearest room and sat her down, taking a chair herself. Taking Sam's hands in hers she finally looked her straight in the face. "I'm going to be honest with you, Sam, I'm afraid it's not looking too good ...I'm so sorry."
"Please don't say that, Janet!" Tears were rolling down her cheeks and falling on their combined hands. Pulling back her hands she stood up shakily and walked over to the door.
"Can I see him?"
"I don't think..."
"Please Janet, I have to see him!" She had a pleading look on her face that Janet couldn't resist in a million years, even if she had wanted to.
"Alright, but..." Her speech was in vain since Sam was already running to the bedside of her fiance. Upon seeing him lying there covered in ice-blankets she slowed her pace in shock.
"Oh God Jason!" Closing the remaining distance she took his hand in hers and placed a gentle kiss on it, tears falling on his hand while doing so.
"Please don't leave me, Jason! I need you, now more than ever!" She placed herself next to him on the bed and put her head on his shoulder. Silent sobs racked her body as she cried herself asleep in his arms. In the doorway two figures were silently taking in the scene before them.
"This can't be happening, not when they both finally found some happiness, damn it Teal'c, he can't die, he doesn't deserve this and neither does Sam!"
"I concur Daniel Jackson, but perhaps his time has come."
"Maybe, but we will be left to pick up the pieces Teal'c and from what I'm seeing there are going to be a lot of pieces to pick up." Janet had joined them and motioned for them to sit on a bed so she could do the post mission exams.
"Janet, tell me he's going to be okay."
"You don't know how much I want to tell you that Daniel, how much I want to tell that to Sam, but ... I can't." Daniel could see some tears forming at the back of her eyes but she quickly blinked them away hoping no one had noticed. The rest of the exam was conducted in silence and when they were finished Janet left the two of them to go check on Jason and Sam. Seeing them together just broke her heart but in the back of her mind she knew there was nothing she could do to save him. All she could do was make him as comfortable as possible and prepare Sam for his last moments.
"Sam sweetie wake up." When she didn't respond she put a hand on her shoulder to give her a gentle tug.
"NO!" Sam jerked her head up and nearly fell of the small bed. If it hadn't been for Janet to catch her she would have fallen. Holding her in a strong embrace Janet put Sam on her feet again.
"It's going to be okay, sweetie!" Moving out of Janet's embrace she walked to the other side of the bed.
"How Janet, how is it going to be okay? You know what, Janet, this is all just a dream and if I wake up all of this will disappear and we will get married and..."
"SAM! Stop it! This is not a dream and you know it, now face it!" Daniel and Teal'c who were still in the infirmary overheard the shouting-match and walked over to the two woman.
"What the hell is going on here?" Daniel walked over to Sam, who sank to the floor crying her heart out. Daniel picked her up and placed her on the next bed. When he turned around to say something to Janet he saw how Jason's eyelashes slowly fluttered open.
"Oh my God Janet, I think he's waking up!" Janet rushed over to his bedside and immediately started checking his vitals.
"Sam?" His voice was a mere whisper but everybody clearly understood the name he had just spoken. Climbing of the bed Daniel had put her on, she slowly approached the bed. She looked as if she had seen a ghost.
"Jason?"
"I'm right over here Sammie, being pestered by the good doc here." He sounded as if he was just having a post-medical. Looking at Janet Sam got the confirmation she needed, he was having his last moment of clarity and when that moment would end it would only go downhill from there. She had heard about it but she never thought that would actually happen to her fiance.
"Guys I think it's best we leave them alone for now." Pushing the two men out she closed the curtain around the bed, ran over to the nearest chair and broke down right there and then.
"Janet?" Daniel pulled her in an embrace, which she eagerly accepted.
"He's dying isn't he?" When he saw the silent nod that she gave him he just hugged her tighter.
"Teal'c make sure that nobody disturbs them and please call the General."
"I will Daniel Jackson." He moved over to the phone and made the call everybody in the infirmary was dreading to make. It took the General only a few minutes to run to the infirmary and when he entered it he was immediately taken aback at what he saw. Some nurses were standing in a corner quietly talking to one another, clearly about what was happening behind the curtain. In the other corner he found Daniel holding a crying doctor and in the middle of the room was a stoic Teal'c standing guard.
"Oh my God!" He just stood there taking in the scene before him. He had never seen so many people so devastated.
"Am I too late Teal'c?"
"You are not, but I am under strict orders not to let anyone pass."
"I see." Taking a seat he sat there waiting just like all the others in the room.
In the meantime Sam and Jason were quietly talking about all kinds of things. She tried to hold herself together but the more they talked the harder it became. In the end she just couldn't stop the tears from falling anymore.
"Hey what are those for?"
"Because..." He looked at her with those puppy-dog eyes and that made her even cry harder.
"Hey hey, Samantha I'm okay now, you’re not going to lose me!" She could see that he too was holding up a brave front. She could even see it in his eyes that he knew what was happening to him.
"Cut the **** Jason, we both know what's going on here."
"I know Samantha but please let us pretend that it isn't going to happen, ok?" He looked at her intently and all she could do was nod her consent.
"Come here!" He pulled her on the bed and into his strong arms. Once again she put her head on his chest, hoping to hear his heartbeat one more time. Both of them were crying now.
"I'll always be with you Sam, I'm never going to leave you!" He whispered some more incoherent words in her ear, just to make her feel better.
"You'll always be in my heart, Jason."
"I just feel so bad that I'm leaving you behind alone on this planet, I always thought that when my time came I could leave you to the care of some family." He gave her a wink that spoke volumes.
"You are Jason, you are."
"I know that you have great friends whom you see as family but that's not exactly what I meant Sam."
"I know what you meant Jason and ... you are leaving me with family." Looking him directly in the face she could see the confusion written all over his face.
"Well now you’ve completely lost me!"
"Jason, I ... I have something to tell you."
"You do?"
"Yeah."
"Well tell me then, or are you going to wait until I'm dead here?"
"That's not funny Jason."
"Sorry sweetie, please continue." Once again tears started to make their way down her face. He gently wiped them away with his fingertips.
"You're going to be a Daddy, Jason!" He looked at her with shock and then he just started to laugh.
"Oh my God Sam! You're kidding me right? You're just saying this to make me feel better, aren’t you?" Seeing the expression on her face he decided that she wasn't making this up. All he could do was pull her into a hug and kiss her for all she was worth. And she was worth a lot, he decided when the kiss ended. Looking down at her stomach he placed a loving hand over their baby.
"Be good to your mom, little buddy!"
"Don't do this Jason, please don't do this!"
"Do what?"
"Saying goodbye! You can't say goodbye yet! I need you here with me, with our baby. You still need to teach our baby to catch a good ball and all the stuff Daddies do with their kids!"
"I know, God I know. I love you Sam and I love our baby!" Both of them were crying again but that didn't bother them.
"I'll be watching you both!" He took his fiancee in his arms and rocked her slowly back and forth. After a while Sam heard him taking in a sharp breath.
"Jason?" Panic was written all over her face.
"It's time Sam, get the others I'd like to say goodbye to them as well." Sliding from his arms she pulled back the curtains to let the others know that it was time. Upon seeing the curtain opening all of them jumped up from their respective seats and ran over to Jason's bedside.
"Hey!" He eyed them all, seeing that not one of his friends was missing; he all gave them a small nod.
"You'll probably already know that I'm dying here so we can skip that bit, but I just wanted to say that it was an honor serving with you all. You've been all been great friends from the beginning till the end and I appreciate that. I'm not going to say goodbye, I'm just going to say..." Once again he shut his eyes to make the pain go away.
"See you all next time!"
Looking over at Daniel and Teal'c he motioned for them to come closer.
"What's up pal?"
"The sky!" While all the rest chuckled at his attempt at humor Jason spoke a few words to the two men.
"Take care of my family guys, they're gonna need ya!" If they were confused about his last words they weren't showing it.
"Love you, Samantha Carter!" She took his hand, which pulled her close for one last kiss.
"Love you too, Jason Thomas." She felt his hand slowly going limp in hers. When she looked up at his face she saw the one thing that she had dreaded from the beginning. He was dead.
Daniel slowly moved over to Sam and pulled her into a hug. She lost herself in his arms, she felt so empty inside now that he was gone. Janet pulled the sheet over his head and started to get everybody out of the room so she could give Sam some last private minutes with her deceased fiance. All had been so caught up in their grief that they hadn't heard the alerts for an incoming wormhole. It had been Colonel O'Neill and the rest of the team that were coming back from the mission Sam would never forget. After being informed that the General had been called to the infirmary he decided to go see what was so important over there. When he entered the infirmary he was greeted with a rather odd scene. The General was talking to the leader of SG-9 in a voice thick of emotions; Janet was curled up in Daniel's lap and was once again crying. Nurses were scattered trough the room, doing all sorts of trivial stuff, just to keep themselves busy.
"Did somebody die in here or what?"
All of a sudden he was the center of attention.
"Just checking! Because you people look like hell."
Janet got up from her place, walked over to the Colonel and just slapped him right in the face.
"You're the most insensitive person I've ever met!"
'What the hell!' was all he could say before he saw Sam coming from behind the curtain, her face covered in tears, arms clutched to her stomach. With one look from her he realized what a jerk he had been.

From behind a tree a lone figure was taking in the scene before him, praying to the Gods that one day his team members would forgive him for what he had done to them.

The end

Poor Sam, she really has an unfortunate track record with men, doesn't she?

Please write another one and make Quinn the man of her dreams this time...

Best wishes,
Hatshepsut
