Which version do you have?

Which version of the book do you have? I mean, they are all the same in terms of text, but the covers I mean. I have the one with th illustration by John Howe of Gandalf (looking a bit greyish-green) holding out his staff and it's raining.

For the Hobbit I have the one with Bilbo just in front of Smaug, half visible and half not. At the beginning of each chapter there is a little illustration aswell.

I have the same cover for LOTR as you. I really like it too.
My Hobbit version, has the drawing of Smaug by Tolkien. It's a really old copy.

They've bought out the all-in-one edition in paperback with a scene from the movie on the front now, the silhouettes of the fellowship. Quite smart, looks nice, but it's the same inside.

I used to have that big old version...I can't remember what the picture was on the cover, I think it was read or somthing with a castle or mountain or something, anyhoo the pages keep falling out & the print was way to small so I've got the 3 book version & the Hobbit with the covers done by John Howe...the 1991 version.

not to bad really. Besides, my philosophy on books is that if your going to have one that you read a lot or that you intend to have as part of your library then get the best copy that you can find.
