Solution to the Tok'ra Problem - Science Fiction Fantasy Chronicles: forums

This is what happens when I'm lying awake at night waiting for migraine drugs to kick in -----

So the Tok'ra are worried that their numbers are declining, that their end may be near, that they may become extinct as a race.

Yet, the solution has been there, right in front of them (well, I assume in front of them) the whole time -- sex.

Shouldn't the boy Tok'ra and the girl Tok'ra be off in the bushes rutting like rabbits, making little Tok'ra harsesus babies? All that knowledge passed to the next generation even without symbiotes and lots of new little hosts for the older symbiotes to blend with (just like Apophis wanted to use his son with Amanet as a new host).

After millenia, you'd think that the Tok'ra would have figured this one out :blush:

That is a very good point....one I have never thoguth of but what if the little Tok'ra kids didn't want to become hosts?
As the Tok'ra have always said that they would never take a host against its will!

Of course, the Tok'ra children wouldn't have to become hosts and I'm sure once in their teens a number would rebel against their parents' values.

But surely, some would want to follow in their parents' footsteps, to take up the Tok'ra cause?

I've also heard the argument of safety, that if one child fell into the hands of the Goa'uld, then all the knowledge of the Tok'ra would be in the Goa'uld. But wouldn't that be past knowledge. If extant Tok'ra produced Harsesus children, then the knowledge would be what has been passed down, but not necessarily what is current. If a Tok'ra parent doesn't know the whereabouts of all the agents, how could that information be passed to the child?

We know that Goa'uld queens use asexual fertilization for their symbiote production, so maybe the Tok'ra haven't learned what all those other bits are for.

Its time for the Tok'ra to let the hosts take control for awhile and show them how it is done. Could open a whole new way of life for the Tok'ra :evil:

geees, poor hosts. How long do symbiots extend hosts' lives? HOw long have the host's not had sex?!?! bad deal on the host part I'm sure.

If the Tok'ra symbiotes and their hosts were -- well, truly symbiotic -- shouldn't Mallek be saying "its time for my host to get lucky?" Wouldn't Fraya say to Anise "Look, honey, I want it bad, so just sit back and enjoy the ride?"

If they're going to use human hosts, they gotta know that procreation follows right after preservation in our subconscious order of priorities.

Well, to be honest, this line of thought appeared between the haze created by a narcotic nasal spray but before the triptan had actually hit the headache. So I was lying in the dark, with a headache, but somewhat buzzed and -- well, keeping my mind occupied with other things keeps me from focusing on how miserable I really am.

The really great thinking come with a double dose of Percodan, but unfortunately I can rarely remember what grand solution I found.
