Jedi run?

OK- I've had no satisfaction on this issue- in episode 1, what the H-E-double hockey sticks is up with that "Jedi run" that Qui-Gonn and Obi-Wan do to get away from the Driodekas? Is that something all Jedi can do, or is it an illusion like the Jedi Mind Trick?

I am not sure what you mean - could you explain it in a bit more detail? I remember the scene (On the Trade Federation orbiting Naboo, right?) but I don't remember anything especially strange about the way the Jedi's run.

Well, they run like really fast- and they seem to blur as they run suggesting either the illusion of speed or that they really are using the Force to run that fast- and yes, that is the scene I mean- Qui-Gonn says "It's a standoff- let's go!"- and they take off real fast.

Yeah, the impression is that they're using the Force to help propel themselves extaordinarily fast. It probably uses tons of energy, so they don't do it that often, but when they have to, watch out!

Same thing with when they jump really high (or really far -- watch out for those apparent free-falls!). They use a LOT of energy and have to maintain a really high degree of concentration.

I think that's why Anakin is so secure in his own abilities. He doesn't have to concentrate as hard to accomplish the same tasks... they simply come naturally to him, so he takes them for granted and blames Obi-Wan for "holding him back."

I wonder if we'll ever see the blur-run again.

Hey Jaffa! It's funny about that fast running thing! It seemed so natural for a Jedi to do, that I didn't even question it (or even think twice about it). It's like that part when they jump down from a very high place (the free fall thing). And Luke does the high jump thing in ESB when he jumped out of the Carbonite freezing chamber really fast (so fast that Vader didn't see him). I never questioned that either. I guess it all just made sense to me. Before I read your post, I had never thought twice about it. Interesting, huh? I'm curious to see what everyone else thinks too!

I'd never thought about this before either but it makes sense. I think we get so use to Hollywood stunts that we no longer say "How can he do that?" I'm sure that all of the unatural leaps and jumps are meant to be done using the Force. Yoda is the expert at those. And yes, Obi Wan says "I hate it when he does that", because Anakin doesn't need to try.
