Buffy's favorite songs Okay, how about a new bit of silliness. I was listening to the radio and I heard George Michael's "Father Figure". For some stange reason, I had a mental picture of Buffy & Giles. No, not like that, just the father figure part. I will be your father figure Put your tiny hand in mine I will be your preacher teacher Anything you have in mind I will be your father figure I have had enough of crime (Ripper) I will be the one who loves you Until the end of time ----- I started to wonder if the rest of the cast had songs, what would they be? --- For instance, Anya - "I'm thinking about buying something very expensive. Maybe an antelope." She would be a natural for Pink Floyd's "Money". ... New car, caviar, four star daydream, Think I'll buy me a football team. Money, get back. I'm all right Jack, keep your hands off of my stack. Money, it's a hit. Don't give me that do goody good ********. I'm in the high-fidelity first class traveling set And I think I need a Lear jet... ---- Since I'm a huge Pink Floyd fan, I first thought of "We Don't Need No Education" for Dawn, but realized that it probably was too old for such a young girl, so I settled on Britney Spears' "Oops! ...I did it again". ---- You get the idea. So now it's your turn. You can come up with songs for characters, relationships, monsters, whatever. Have fun. And don't everybody suggest "Born To Be Wild" for Spike, it's too obvious.

 ah, obcooke, I have every faith in you trumping me with a better one. How about "I put a spell on you" by Nina Simone, or Screamin Jay Hawkins, for Willow. I know, I know, I have taken my cue here from "I'm under your spell" from OMWF, but it's a song I really like anyway. I love this thread BTW!

[Tabitha: ah, obcooke, I have every faith in you trumping me with a better one.] You're too kind. [Tabitha: How about "I put a spell on you"... I know, I know, I have taken my cue here from "I'm under your spell" from OMWF..] Very good. In fact, I got a cue from that episode also. Since it's still spoilery until Sept. 24... Giles in "Standing in the Way": Wish I could play the father, And take you by the hand. George Michaels in "Father Figure": I will be your father figure, put your tiny hand in mine. Coincidence?????????? Is that why I suddenly thought of Buffy & Giles when listening to that song? You know, there have been lawsuits about people stealing lyrics unconsciously. Perhaps Joss' musical debut owes a lot to pop songs that have gone before, without even him realizing it. [Tabitha: I love this thread BTW!] Well, feel free to steal it for your own forums. I thought about putting it as a suggestion in the Moderator Forums for other to see, but I wanted to see what kind of response it got first.

"Material Girl" -- would work for Anya --- (btw - I hate the <insert> key) "Leaving on a Jetplane" for Riley -- I know he left in a helicopter, but it still fits. Well, for Spike, as of mid season 5 -- "Faded" by Soul Decision -- except some of the lyrics don't work in S5 - but they do kinda work in S6 "Every Breath You Take" by the Police - for Giles the watcher (and I actually swiped this from an MP3 I have of ASH singing this song, just before he sings, he mentions that he (or someone) refers to it as the 'watcher song') Okay - someone else gets a turn now --

I have been thinking of this one for ages and have only now gotten around to it, I think it fits quite well with at least one of Buffy's romances: At the dark end of the street That is where we always meet Hiding in shadows where we don't belong living in darkness, to hide alone You and me, at the dark end of the street You and me I know a time has gonna take it's toll, we have to pay for the love we stole It's a sin and we know it's wrong, Oh, our love keeps going on strong Steal away to the dark end of the street You and me They gonna find us, they gonna find us, They gonna find us love someday You and me, at the dark end of the street You and me When the daylight all goes around, And by chance we're both down the town If we should meet, just walk, walk on Oh, darling, please don't you cry You and me, at the dark end of the street You and me Sigh, I love that song, and it really does fit in... apart from maybe the daylight bit in the last verse ![]()

For those of you who may not know, there is a new show running in the US during the repeat season on FOX, that's a big hit in the ratings right now. It's called "American Idol" and the premise is that a group of contestants are giving a chance to perform a song in front of an audience and then, based on a panel of "experts" and/or viewer's phone calls, one of the singers is sent home and the rest compete next week. That's the way I think it works, but I haven't seen it. Sometimes the song that the contestants pick to show off their talent can be critical. Zap2it.com asked some celebs what song they would perform if put on the spot. Here's the answer that some of our favs gave: Anthony Stewart Head - "I Can't Stand the Rain." J. August Ricards (Angel's Gunn) - "Sarah Smile," by Hall & Oates Joss Whedon - "Something from 'West Side Story.' It's the only thing in my range."
