Well, I'm not sure how to start this, but here goes nothin'. In another thread, we bagan discussing how Star Wars orginated and it led to a discussion on the basic plots used in ALL fiction. So, with fun in mind, let's see if we can find the elements in the entire SW saga that match the following plot points: (Feel free to ask me to add to or adjust the definitions) Quest -- A journey to find something or someone, or accomplish some task Adventure -- Excitement for excitement's sake Pursuit -- A chase Rescue -- to free or save from danger, either physical, psychological or emotional Escape -- to gain freedom of some kind, either physical, psychological or emotional Revenge -- to inflict damage, injury, or punishment in retaliation for something The Riddle -- any problem, puzzle, or unanswered question (we should find LOTS) Rivalry -- competition between individuals or groups Underdog -- the individual or group most likely to lose Temptation -- an enticement of any kind Metamorphosis -- change of form, shape, structure or substance Transformation -- a change in the condition, nature, or function of someone or something Maturation -- how individuals grow up, become wiser, learn from experiences Love -- in every capacity from the individual to something as large as life itself Forbidden Love -- that loving attachment that is in some way prohibited or illegal Sacrifice -- the act of giving up, destroying, permitting injury to, or forgoing something valued for he sake of something/someone else Discovery -- the act of finding or learning something new, especially if one is the FIRST Wretched Excess -- action or conduct that goes despicablely beyond the usual, reasonable, or lawful limit; wanton wastefulness Ascension -- the act of ascending or rising (in power, usually) Descension -- the act of declining or falling Some of the details will be easy to match up, others might cause some contraversy. But that's when it starts getting fun. So, let's start. What details in the SW saga match these 20 plot points?

Can I make a suggestion? Perhaps we could go through the list one at a time, in order, and try to think of an appropriate scenario for each plot element in pkgrl's list? It would make it more of a game? PLease please? I guess the only problem would be having to come back to the first page to find out what was next! But I think we could manage... Ok, here goes: Quest - The droids looking for Obi Wan at the beginning of ANH.

Absolutely! I was thinking about this today, so there were a few going through my head, mostly regarding Forbidden Love. The obvious one relating to this is Anakin and Padme, and NOT because love is forbidden in the Jedi code either. Mostly because of what Padme said by the fire. She's in politics, he's training to become a Jedi. Their lives are full and not very condusive to a relationship (or marriage) not to mention the fact that Anakin might be seen as biased if he, as a Jedi, had to negotiate some dispute that involved Padme, Naboo, Gungans, pacifists, or even women. People (especially in politics) tend to see bias where there is none, and this can create havok for all Jedi. Then there are the slightly less obvious Forbidden Loves of Luke and Leia and Han and Leia. Different reasons why they're forbidden, but all the same....

Quest Obi-Wan has to disable the Death Star so that the MF can escape in ANH. Adventure Before Luke learns about the ways of the Force, and his family history, or even the existence of Leia, this is all that he craves. Just a way off the planet and the dirt farm for something more exciting.

Rescue: can I just say, "duh" first. :naughty: The rescue of Princess Leia from her captivity on the Death Star... Also, the rescue of Luke from his entrapment under Cloud City in ESB. Also, the rescue of Luke from capture by the Tuskin Raiders in ANH. Also....

Rescue There are lots of Rescues, that's true. The biggest rescue theme would be Han from Jabba the Hut. None of the rescues ever seem to go according to plan though. Usually, they end up as more of a Escape for the rescued and the rescuers.

Good point! Another one that didn't go according to plan, that started out as a quest and became an escape/rescue/quest fulfillment was the trip to the shield generator bunker on Endor. ![]()
