Re: What Was The 1st Batman Film You Saw?

When I was young (many many moons ago when Dinosaurs still walked the Earth) I remember going to Saturday Matinee (in the days when my town still had a cinema). We would buy a bag of crisps to throw at people and await the 'Big' picture. It was preceded by a half hour (or thereabouts) episode of an old serial - and this is where I got my first taste of Batman - stamping our feet and hollering as the Caped Crusader took on The Wizard in fifteen thrill-packed chapters. Aside from that, Adam West and his aforementioned Shark Repellant was my first taste of full length feature Dynamic Duo.

Re: What Was The 1st Batman Film You Saw?

The old 60's Batman series...yeah. If you interview Adam West now about doing those campy TV shows, he says this:

He and Burt Ward (Robin) KNEW it was a campy and ridiculous show when they were filming the episodes. But, they were playing to the high ratings of the show. Burgess Meredith (Penguin) enjoyed his time on the show, but said later it was a comedown from his previous work in stage and film, some of which was very prestigious.

Generally, the villians were experienced actors with good credentials. None of them had EVER played parts like that before. The paychecks were good, though.
Before Batman, Adam West played the second astronaut in the film 'Robinson Crusoe on Mars,' but he dies early on and Paul Mantee ends up as 'Crusoe.'

I remember thinking, "Why would anyone do a Batman film in 1989?" It turned out to be excellent.

The first one I saw was Batman. Saw this on television when I was in college. I remember I was sick with a cold and watching it, and promised myself to rent it cause my concentration wasn't all that great. Since then I have been a fan of the movie series.

Re: What Was The 1st Batman Film You Saw?

I'm sure I saw bits of the 1966 movie as kid in the 80's but I was never a fan of the show (it was just another half an hour that they could have be showing a cartoon ) so I didn't pay much attention to it.

Having not read the comics, the 89 Batman movie was my first experience of a darker more realistic Batman and I thought it was absolutely brilliant.

I can still remember Prince dressed as half Batman/ half Joker for the film clip to Batdance.

BATMAN…Director Tim Burton…
Cast Inc…Jack Nicholson… Tim Burton…Kim Basinger…
A couple of nights on this as a Supporting Artist and, although it was cold, what makes me remember this film is Jack Nicholson leaning over a high balcony and saying to some of the boys "Just look at it this way guys, another day another $100,000s" (I think we were on £50 a night).

Aitch,

I got in on the very first one. Michael Keaton was a terrific Batman, still my favorite although Christian Bale is not to bad. Sorry but I was not a fan of Val or George. I believe there is a new Batman on the way, again with Christian Bale.

Oh Styr I remember that shark repellant. The series and the movie were a bit of a laugh.

Batman 1989, loved it I remember loving the Joker so much I dressed up as him at a Halloween disco when I was 5 and I have to say Vicki Vale was my first crush without a doubt. Also best line in the film, "you wanna get nuts, come on lets get nuts" Keaton was great at that sort of thing.

Hi Guys, My Favorite movie is batman begins. It’s a dark and danger-filled film, and a wonderful telling of Batman. Possibly one of the best superhero movies. Batman and Robbin also a good. It's a funny movie.

The 1966 Batman movie at the home of a cousin who had the movie on VHS. I then saw all the rest beginning with the Keaton one in 1989. I liked the first two with Keaton and the last one with Bale. They came closest to the comic book character.

Is anyone else disturbed by how old the original Burton Batman is now? That was one of the first films I saw at the cinema. I feel old.
