Episode III Roles Cast

The official Star Wars Web site reported a raft of casting news for minor characters for the upcoming last prequel film, Episode III. Casting director Christine King picked local Australian actors from stage, film and television productions for Episode III, which will shoot in Sydney this summer.

Joel Edgerton returns as Owen Lars, a small part he played in Star Wars: Episode II-Attack of the Clones. Jay Laga'aia reprises the role of Capt. Typho, which he also played in Episode II. Rena Owen also comes back, again playing Taun We.

Joining the cast are Kee Chan, who will play a senator; Chantal Freer, who appears as a handmaiden; Christopher Kirby, also a senator; Rebecca Jackson Mendoza, as a royal leader; Rohan Nichol, in the role of a young captain; Warren Owens as a senator; and Kristy Wright as a handmaiden.

Jackson Spills Ep III Spoiler

Samuel L. Jackson revealed the fate of his Star Wars: Episode III character, Mace Windu, in a spoiler-filled interview with MTV.com. "I'm just going to die, you know?" Jackson told the site. "I'm basically going down there, hoping that I'm going to have this really awesome lightsaber battle with somebody that takes me out in the proper way. You know, the way a Jedi of my status deserves to be taken out."

Jackson said that he travels to Australia next month to begin work on George Lucas' third and final Star Wars prequel. "I never realized I would end up with some kind of franchise character that's in the middle of a big franchise of its own, but it's very cool," Jackson said. "Mace is kind of evolving for me. And it's been a wonderful experience, being able to be in Star Wars, first of all because I was a huge fan. I used to sit around and wonder how you got into something like that, and how great it would be to be in it. Fortunately for me, somebody must have heard me, and I'm in it!"
No big spoilers there. We know that Mace Windu dies, because all the Jedi die, but no "awesomw lightsaber battle with somebody that takes [him] out in the proper way." Owen Lars to appear again means that there must be Tatooine scenes. The multitude of Handmaidens means that there is probably many scenes with Padme without Anakin.

Do you think that those others will have larger roles in Ep.III, or still be minor characters?

Pablo Hidalgo, the on-set Episode III diarist for the official Star Wars Web site, told fans that the production is near the end and that scenes of Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader may commence next week. "We're ahead of schedule," Hidalgo said in an Aug. 28 chat with fans. "Though I hesitate to call this an official wrap date, a lot of calendars around these parts have Sept. 18 circled." Hidalgo added that costume designer Trisha Biggar is already prepping the Vader costume.

As for the look of Episode III, Hidalgo revealed that the upcoming prequel may feature designs left out of the original trilogy of films. "The Ranch Art Department delved into the archives of [original Star Wars illustrators] Joe Johnston and Ralph McQuarrie, ... and some of those designs will be making an appearance, which I'm sure will fuel needless and uninformed [extended universe]/canon debates," Hidalgo said, with tongue in cheek.

In other Episode III news, Hidalgo said:
•A character from the extended universe of Star Wars comics, books and games will make an appearance in the prequel.
•Anakin (Christensen) and Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) will have a nasty duel, which is currently being filmed.
So, who is the character from the expanded universe -- Boba Fett?

Maybe this is just an issue of semantics, but I doubt it would be Boba, as we have already seen him in the movies. I understood that comment to mean a character that has only been involved with Star Wars via the EU - one who has never been seen or referenced in one of the movies.

I haven't read much EU stuff, but for some reason Mara Jade springs to mind (Luke's future wife), but I can't really remember much of her backstory, and I doubt she would really fit in as she would have to be very young.

Maybe Admiral Thrawn?

Also, I am sure I read that filming would continue into next year... Maybe I just imagines that one.

Now that Episode 3 has hit the editing rooms for the effects to be added, isn't there something positive yet on a title for this?

It's true that Episode I was still only 'Episode I' right up until it's release, but on the other hand, Lucas (and the studio) are missing out on a lot of money from merchandising by not tying products to the films name.

'The power of merchandising' - "Spaceballs"

Revenge of the Sith

The title was guesses by fans and announced last month, but there are very few other real facts about this film. I think that Lucas is somehow able to keep a very tight ship as this report shows (which is why I don't believe any of those complete script rumours.)

Bai Ling Talks Sith

Bai Ling, who makes an extended cameo as the good senator Bana Breemu in the upcoming Star Wars: Episode III, told SCI FI Wire that she has high hopes for the final chapter in the Star Wars saga, which is subtitled Revenge of the Sith. "I think that film is going to be very good because the last one [was]," Bai said in an interview. "Sometimes when you're on set, you have the feeling about [a] film, good or bad."

Bai added, "I just feel like they want mystery, and [they] kept, even from us, what's going to happen in the movie. They kept it very secretive, and when I got the job, the next day I went to a premiere and some interviewer, I told him I got the job. The next day I got a call. 'You don't tell anyone! We're going to announce it, not you!' I was so afraid I would lose the job. So when I came back, our scripts, they all had a code. So one time I called my agent; she [wanted] to sign [for] the script and Fed Ex it back [to Lucasfilm]. I said, 'OK, my agent's doing it.' They said, 'No, no, no. You're doing it yourself. Can't tell your agent.' So everything's very secretive. But when we were shooting this with George Lucas, he said, 'Bai Ling, right now you're on the Internet.' I said, 'Where?' [He said,] 'There's a little camera right there.' They're allowed to show behind the scenes. Anything behind the camera they can show, like sitting around his office. They have so many fans. I [am] very lucky to be in the last Star Wars."

from Dark Horizons

In the latest official site update, Anthony Daniels revealed a worthy point of trivia: It seems the character with the very the last line of dialogue in "Episode III" is the very same character that has the first line of dialogue in "Episode IV: A New Hope" - ie. C-3PO. In the same set - how's that for bridging the saga?
I really like that idea!

Hailing Frequencies #283 is less sold on the idea:

As nerds around the world know, that line is "Did you hear that?" Maybe his last line will be, "Did you smell that?" or "Buy my action figure!"
So, the competition is on to name that last line...
