That was a nice ep, I agree. Some artistic film grading was cool, a nice TV trick that I love this series for, but just rubbed salt that all the eps can't be as stylish and clever as this one.

What I think we have to chalk down to Jack being so savvy in this ep is mission experience. Harry said it at the start, Jack has experienced some freeky stuff and ought to know when there is danger afoot. The whole mission experience is really "back woods" experience: don't eat or drink something you don't know, don't assume it's okay. That sort of thing. (It's something the fans have questioned the show on in the past: Why do they go around consuming untested stuff on mission?) Jack made this mistake back in Brief Candle and seems to have learned from it. Noticing the paranoia thing isn't as big a leap as you'd think. Harry going from anoyingly smug and gregarious to waspish and insulting is noticeable. For all that he was a creep, he liked bugging Jack for entertainment value. And then he stops? Gee, there has to be a reason related to the enviroment. No rocket scientist needed to figure that one out...

Secondly, the book-thing may have been a list of names and maybe Jack played a hunch doing the head-count on the dead guys. A month spent in as boringly beautiful place as that would have people scrounging for stuff to keep the mind ticking over. I'm betting this ep with "smart Jack" is a dig at all of last year's yelps from people that Jack was being dumbed down. But it's all a hoot that Jack isn't as ignorant as he looks, he's at least paid a little attention to how Daniel would solve a mysterious book.

Not that I could see anything all that clearly the way he was laying, but maybe right shoulder? From a thing I saw on PBS you can have some serious bleeding from some vessels on the back side of the shoulder. Or in the upper arm? Surely a non-lethal spot, makes Harry drop the P-90 and fall down, bleed enough for some intensive field first-aid.

This episode was LEAPS AND BOUNDS above last week!

Much MUCH better! One - it's almost always great to see Maybourne again (really, he hasn't been annoying since he 1st came to the SGC and wanted to take Teal'c away) - ok, maybe he's still annoying, but it's in a kinda good way now - (does that make any sense?) Two - Jack threatening to shoot Maybourne always makes for great dialogue!

The alien tech turned out to be less cooky than initially thought - I liked that the thing sent them to 'someplace else' and that it wasn't a 'transporter beam' - I mean, it was - but it only went one way and only to one place.

I liked that Sam couldn't make it work - makes her more 'human' - and that the scientists were tired of trying and wanted to leave.

I'm not exactly sure what Jonas was doing in this episode - don't remember seeing him much. And I'm still a little 'up in the air' about his character - not sure how to feel about him still - mostly b/c I'm not sure what he's supposed to be doing - but anyway -

Teal'c - he was great! And that scene w/ him and Sam? very well done! Loved that ----

Investigative Jack! Yeah! are they trying to get away from 'stupid Jack'? I hope so - b/c I HATE stupid-Jack -- please - the guys' got tons of military experience -- grr argh -- anyway --- great Jack stuff --- and he shot Harry - twice! hehehe ---

okay - adding in response to Dave's post from a bit back -

I don't think all the skeletons were goa'uld - I think it was just the one - b/c Jack didn't seem to notice snake skeletons in the others - just the one -- (unless I missed something)

and if he was doing a 'headcount' as Cyn mentioned, then finding an 'extra' body might clue him in --

as for the goa'uld and the weapons - maybe this was one of those 'forbidden' planets and one smart-alec goa'uld decided to try to take the place -- and failed miserably b/c he wasn't much of a horticulturist or botanist -- <shrug> I dunno - could be all kinds of things --

anyway - still a good ep --- not nearly so many plot holes as some of the others ---

There was only one 'snake' skeleton around the neck, so I would accept that. But it just throws up more questions:

As Skoon said "I though the snake is absorbed by the body when it's killed or is it left if the host is killed too?

I'd forgotten that.

If they weren't Goa'uld, then are the furlings human?

BTW Is 'Stargate Infinity' accepted as canon? They have an ancient that is a red thing with wings.

Well, the Nox are human-like. The Ascard are humanoid. Why not the Furlings? Jack in this ep was given lines that were very on the line with what the fan perception is of FUR-lings. Fuzzy, creatures like Ewoks in some way that couldn't be bad enough to create nasty, honking weapons. This could have been Jack kidding around. But I'm feeling like he's never seen Return of the Jedi and what the Ewoks did to defend their moon. There's another theory I've seen that the Furlings are really bugs and we Earthlings are going to be scared out of our pants when we find them.

What is it about SG-1 that we cannot have any other kinds of aliens? This assumption has permiated into the fan base. I'm in contact with someone that wanted to roleplay a Goa'uld that had a genetically engenieered canine host calling itself Cerebus. Basically he got slammed out of the roleplay group on the grounds there couldn't be such a creature. Quite sad IMHO. Even more sad since we've had stories about Goa'uld tampering with human genetics to create a better host. And we've got the Unas running around.

As for aliens with wings in SG:Infiinity? Well, it could make a nice link to why humans have stories of angels in Earth mythology. The four better-known Biblical angels are quite powerful beings as we would assume the Ancients would have been seen as when they may have been puttering around Earth playing with Stargates.

I'm recalling that Infinity isn't cannon relating to SG-1. I think the producers of SG-1 had firmly set themselves apart from the cartoon when it was announced. The cartoon is set years into in the future. It would only become cannon if by the end of SG-1 we never get to see an ancient.

jack pulled a knife out of the corpse, which suggests that host and symbiote died at the same time, thus not allowing for absorbtion, rather they both decomposed together.

If i recall Legacy correctly, the snakes died prior to their hosts, so they had they protein marker (the linvris)

if the symbiote proceeds the host in death, the symbiote is absorbed by the host (jolinar in sam and the Linvris)

however the symbiote can also abandon the host and die on its own (jack in Into the fire and Abyss - assuming kanan is toast)

Loved this ep. One of the best so far in S6. And Mayborne has become a much better character since he's gone completely disreputable. I couldn't stand him in uniform, but once he grew a beard and went renegade, he's been great.

Speaking of beards, is a shaving kit part of standard mission gear? In a month on the planet Mayborne's beard grows no longer and all Jack manages is the two-day scruffy look.

The beard part did bother me at the time, but I thought it was really nitpicking in the extreme, so I didn't mention it. Only there was a "two weeks later" caption, and Jack and Maybourne looked the same, then a little later Jack has a two-day stubble.

Oh - I hope not - that thing is horrid - the cartoon, not the Ancient - I only saw a couple eps - but they were so full of holes and completely incredible (in the sense of 'not credible' / unbelievable) things that I couldn't watch anymore -

I can suspend disbelief a bit, but this show does a number on the series canon --- it's - weird --


I was wondering who the 'Paradise' people were supposed to be - it would be nice to someday learn who they were --- (this is where Daniel would come in handy - b/c he'd wanna go back and figure out who the ppl were and why they were there and what exactly happened to them - or at least, S1 Daniel would) --

That's one of the things I miss -- SG1 going to a planet and 'sleuthing' out what happened -- I don't like the 'go to planet / make a mess / clean it up / leave' method - it's boring.

They did have knives, at least jack did, and that could account for simply stubble...if he only shaved every few days or so when it bugged him

This just sends my racing mind into speculating on all the "lost scene" fics we could have of Harry contemplating killing Jack with his beard trimming scissors and longing to steal one of Jack's guns... Since Harry was anticipating an extended stay, I'm thinking he packed that sort of stuff in his kit.

While I raised the beard/shaving issue (easily handled with a shot of Jack shaving with his knife or whatever while fishing for instance), I again chant the sacred mantra "entertainment value" and move on.

I'm no expert but I'd have assumed they'd have a raiser. They must stay over on planets over night & would take simple toiletry items wouldn't they?
