oh i like this thread i can really think here. i said not sure cause Lucas hasnt said anything specifically on the issue. i think that he is leading us on with all theese clues. but that remains to be seen. i have a theory for episode 3 about this. basiclly it is that palpatine will be Darth Sidious's aprentice after douku gets killed, i think it is enevitable, and he will kill his master and take his place and ten become emperor. what do u guys think of that?:rolly2:

I read another alternative somewhere (backed up to some degree by info on www.starwars.com ) that Sidious and Palpatine might be different people (kind of) based on the fact that Sidious is in fact a clone of Palpatine. Before anyone shouts, this is NOT ep 3 spoiler info. In the EU we know that the Emperor is a big fan of cloning himself. I'll try and track down that ref, it had an interesting angle on the whole Palpatine-Sidious thing. | |

hmm that is interesting, but it just doesnt sound right to me, if it were true then what the heck happened to this clone of palpatine, i cant see him being cloned, he was always to much incontrol and guarding his power, i dont see him giving any of it up even for himself. Now i know that in the EU he has clones, but remember thoose were for if he died not to be let loose when he was still out and about already. (sorry Tabitha i seem to be bashing ur ideas a lot on this forum , im not meaning to.)

DOn't worry Tim, it certainly doesn't feel like my ideas are being bashed, just interesting discussion. And on this particular one, this isn't my idea at all! In fact I would tend to agree with you that it is incredibly likely, but I can so see Lucas throwing us a few curves in 2005.

"Palpatine was the supreme ruler of the most powerful tyrannical regime the galaxy had ever witnessed, yet his roots are extremely humble, traced back to the peaceful world of Naboo. Before his rise to power, Palpatine was an unassuming yet ambitious Senator in the Galactic Republic. Palpatine saw the Republic crumbling about him, torn apart by partisan bickering and corruption. All too common were those unscrupulous Senators taking advantage of the system, growing fat and wealthy on a bureaucracy too slow to catch them. Palpatine's moment of opportunity came as a result of a trade embargo. The Trade Federation, in protest of government measures that would tax their outlying trade routes, blockaded and invaded Naboo. Naboo's planetary leader, Queen Amidala, rushed to Coruscant for Palpatine's aid. Together, the two pleaded to the Senate for intervention, only to see their request stalemated by Trade Federation filibustering. Frustrated by the government's inability to do anything, Queen Amidala acted upon Palpatine's suggestion, and called for a Vote of No Confidence in the Republic's leadership. " http://www.starwars.com/databank/cha...ine/index.html "Behind a curtain of secrecy lurked Darth Sidious, a mysterious Sith Lord and puppet-master of the tumultuous events that brought an end to the Republic. The Sith order had been extinct for a millennium, yet somehow, two survived -- the Master Sidious, and his deadly apprentice, Darth Maul. In the waning years of the Republic, the Sith order returned, but Sidious was content to hide in the shadows. Sidious arranged for the cowardly Neimoidians to brazenly blockade and invade the peaceful planet of Naboo in protest over increased taxation from the senate. Sidious never contacted the Neimoidians directly. Instead, he relied on holographic communication. Such long distance transmissions coupled with obscuring dark robes kept his identity and location a secret to all of his accomplices. " http://www.starwars.com/databank/cha...ous/index.html Well, either sidious simply HELPED palpy rise to power, or they are one and the same, y'know. I'd add in anything about sifo dyas, but he's not in the starwars.com databank. ~ana
