Having everythign spelt out is too patronising. Not bothering to explain anything is supercillious....

Let's just hope Lucas treads the fine line!

A new member to ascifi.com posted a link that had this possibility mentioned regarding Sifo Dyas....Palpatine, as Chancellor, had Jedi Sifo Dyas order the clone army for the Republic and then Palpatine had Dooku kill Sifo Dyas.

Sounds plausable to me.

Now THIS is a plausible theory! And one I hadn't considered myself. Up to this point, I figured, Well, the Kaminoans don't know or might not know who Palpatine is (the ARE beyond the Outer Rim) so he could have ordered the clone army himself using the name and reputation of Syfo Dias. Especially since I'm SURE that Darth Sidious IS Palpatine and Sidious sounds so much like Syfo Dias. I guess Palpatine could have had Dooku use Master Syfo Dias' name, too, and who'd argue? Syfo Dias is dead. Is he going to refute the assertion?

Actually, he WAS a longstanding member of local politics... or he'd never have been elected Senator. Doesn't mean that he hasn't been working behind the scenes, too, as Sidious. In fact, I'm sure that he has.

He could have been secretly trained as a Sith/Dark side Jedi by someone so far unmentioned in the series, while maintaining his public persona on Naboo and Coruscant.
Actually, I don't think anyone TRAINED Palpatine. I think the lure of power drew him to STUDY the Sith on his own. He's not a young man anymore and he may have been studying this "cult" for decades. In order to gain real power, he takes on an apprentice himself, but that doesn't mean he ever was one.

Quote:
Did Sidious kill Syfo Dias and pose as him in ordering the Clone Army? Was he some other wild card? Perhaps Syfo Dias was in cahoots with the Dark Side - possibly a previous Sith?
Good questions. We'll have to wait and see about these.

Quote:
Or, and this is the conclusion quite a few people seem to be coming to, are Syfo Dias and Sidious one and the same.
Did the Jedi fake his own death and rename himself Sidious/Palpatine?
Now I don't think this is possible. Yoda and Mace KNEW Syfo Dias and would surely recognize him, even if he wore a disguise. And I don't think Palpatine could rise politically as he did AND become a Jedi powerful enough and wise enough to be on the Jedi Counsel. Just not possible. Not even in the SW universe.

Any more ideas?

I like the idea Sidious trained himself

Sidious might have had Jedi, or at least Force-sensitives in his nearest and dearest, might he? Perhaps he had some teachings in his inheritance... you know, old books, "How not to turn to the Dark Side in 100 easy steps: A Self Help Book"

Step #1 Don't wear black. If you do, be very sure that it is not long and flowing.

This is the most confusing thread I have ever read! I thought it all made sense until I came in here.
I think it would be cool if Palpatine had trained himself too. Maybe he has as many midichlorians as Annie?

Well, I doubt that ANYONE has anywhere near the same midichlorian count as Anakin. After all, his kids (and grand kids) kick some serious bootie! Besides, that whole "born without original sin" can only happen once per galaxy. So, Anakin's IT.

:lol: :lol:
Step #2 Don't chuckle maniacally... it's a dead give-away.

Re: Midichlorians

I read a big discussion elsewhere about this issue. You imply that Luke and Leia have high Midichlorian counts because Anakin, their father, does and that it is somehow a genetic disposition, However, Midichlorians are supposedly micro-organisms which have a symbiotic relationship with the host, so genetics should have nothing to do with it. That would explain why Palpatine has a high count, and also why new young Jedi can still be discovered in far flung reaches of the galaxy, instead of within the families of existing Jedi; but it doesn't explain Luke and Leia.

If you want to discuss this more, we'd better make a new thread. You could copy this post over

Here's what The Force tells me:

Palpatine=Sidious/Emperor

Dooku=Tyrannus

Sifo Dyas=A Jedimaster and Council member who was in league with Sidious and Dooku, but was killed when he wanted too much power- just as Sidious will kill Dooku.

Don't ask me how I know these things, just trust that I do!

a good theory I heard was that Jedi Master Sifo-Dyas was killed just before the events of "The Phantom Menace", he was secretly a SITH LORD called Darth Sidious that had learned how to come back as a GHOST (as we see in the original trilogy) and took over Palpatine's Body. (palpatine is the victim)
This is why the jedi can't detect any evil in Palpatine, or something.

Nope. Palpatine's evil. That's it.

Hopefully, Sifo-Dyas will be explained in Ep III.

The Jedi can't feel Palpatine's evil because the dark side is clouding "everything" as Yoda said. He's also a masterful illusionist/politician, so he's great at hiding his intentions and motivations.

Well, considering the same guy played both characters, I'm going to go with yes, Palpatine and Darth Sidious are one in the same.

I just figured that Sifo-Dyas was Sideous's apprentice before Maul was and that Palpatine was Sideous...my poor blonde brain likes to keep things simple until shown otherwise
