I would think that, at least, someone on George Lucas; staff checks in from time to time on Star Wars message boards just to see what the fans are thinking. I would guess that this is why he didn't use Jar Jar so much in ep II. Someone probably researched the fans thoughts and brought them back to George. Although, the media did butcher Jar Jar also.

Unless George Lucas had his head stuck in the sands of Tatooine, I doubt it very much that he needed anyone to tell him exactly what fans thought about Jar Jar Binks in Ep. I.

I was just about to reply with something similar. Really - everyone hated Jar Jar. I almost feel sorry for him in retrospect... Almost

Be strong! Do not give in to this weaker feeling *g*

Hm, I don't really think we need extra scenes. They should be as they were made, it is just commercial cr*p doing this. He purposefully didn't release 4-6 on DVD when he re-released them on vid to make you pay over and over and over. *snarl*

Its the same with the idea of adding [TPM, AOTC and ANH spoiler:] Padme over the bit where Leia remembers her mother which has been suggested: I think they filmed it specially.

Other than touching up a few SFX (like the speeder's orange glow underneath) I don't think they should tamper too much.

yeah...touching things up here and there would be fine. I just hope they don't get to carried away with the whole thing. Although given the past history I wouldn't get my hopes up for that to much.

I am ambivalent to the idea of putting all this extra footage in. In fact I don't even really like the remastered special directors cut re-release editions. I think that, from an artistic viewpoint, you have to put down the brush and walk away. And, while I love these movies with a passion, they are hardly a cinematic version of the Sisteen Chapel, are they? I can't see Lucas ever really being satisfied, I wish he would do something new instead

I know this is basically a rehash of my first post, but I do feel quite strongly that he should just leave well alone. We love the original trilogy enough already - isn't that sufficient?

If every movie maker did this we'd never see anything truly original...

But in repsonse to my own ranting, I suppose the issue is, if it is art, then who does it really 'belong' to? Us, the consumers? Or the artist himself?

Something to ponder...

New to this discussion...

Where and when did you hear that Lucas is shooting new footage for the original trilogy DVDs? You sure it's new "footage" and not new interviews? I remember him saying that there wasn't much behind the scenes footage that he could include so he wanted more "stuff" but I didn't hear anything about adding footage to the films themselves.

And he's shot the 'graves' at the Lars' Homestead that weren't in ANH. I started a thread about this in the ANH forum.
