Re: Who was the better character in the films? I voted for Aragorn. The scene when be began to fight all alone, right after Frodo told him about the betrayal of Boromir and his departure from the Fellowship was incredible.

Re: Who was the better character in the films? Sam was my favorite both in the book and in the film. A close second was Legolas. I think Orlando Bloom played him very well. But for me Sam was the most unselfish character I've ever encountered in a novel. He has a lot of the qualities humans treasure. Loyalty, honesty, courage and empathy. A true friend to Frodo. We could all use a friend like Sam.

Re: Who was the better character in the films? Aragorn all the way!! He is such a respectable character. He's a great leader and yet he stays completely loyal to Frodo and never once tried to take The Ring from him to use for his own good.

Re: Who was the better character in the films? I voted for Aragorn as well. I felt he, most closely, represented how the actually books portrayed him as. Very well done with the character Aragorn. I liked the dwarf but didnt feel he was portrayed as correctly as he could have been. Samwise was well done as well.

Re: Who was the better character in the films? Although not a major fan of Lord of the Rings, I must admit I liked Boromir... could that be partly due to the fact that he is played by Sean Bean? I'm not a fangirl... slightly... ![]() Also Sam has to be one of the best.

Re: Who was the better character in the films? Well I had to go for Sam just because I thought he had the best story of them all and was the one who really remained who he always had been at the end of it all (amybe a tad more confident!) .....although if Gollum had been up there....hmm close one! best acting in the movie for me was the gollum scizophrenic scene! ![]()

Re: Who was the better character in the films? I voted for Boromir, for the simple reason that I thought he was the character who benefited most by the translation from book to film. Although Sam benefited a lot, too.

Re: Who was the better character in the films? I have just realised that this poll was for the film. Never mind I can not withdraw my vote back for Samwise now. Boromir was without a shadow of a doubt the best character in the film. Sean Bean was awesome, and it was a real shame that he died. Samwise was perhaps the weakest character in the film. There was a fine line between pure friendship and love, and latent homosexuality - and he crossed it.

Re: Who was the better character in the films? A tie between Ian McKellen (Gandalf) and Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn) who played their part perfectly well, but it the end my female hormonae leaded my vote : Aragorn. But Ian McKellen is a wonderful Magneto in X-Men and X2.

Re: Who was the better character in the films? I think most of the characters were not quite what I expected and really far from the book. I mean, Aragorn should be abot 50 years old, Frodo looks like a wimp, Legolas... oh, well, he's a nice girlie, Gimli- ever film needs a comic character, and he, along with the two younger hobbits, filled that gap, and the most terrible sight - Elrond (or should I say Agent Smith?); to sum up, the only more or less convincing character was Gollum.

Re: Who was the better character in the films? Agree with most of what you said, but keep in mind that Aragorn ages more slowly than the rest of us; I dont remember exactly how old he lived to be but I think it was somewhere upwards of 150.
