Who is Sifo-Dyas?

Who was Sifo-Dyas who placed the order for the Clone Army 10 years earlier?

It could sound like Darth Sidious if you pronounced oddly -- SI (fo) DY AS.

But, Yoda and Mace both claim that it is the real name of a Jedi Master who died 10 years ago.

Darth Maul died 10 years ago.

Many fans think it's actually Count Dooku, because Jango Fett told Obi-Wan that he was "hired to make the clones by a man named Tyranus".

But, then how is it that Dooku (Darth Tyranus) doesn't know where the Republic got an army from so quickly (er... that would be the one you ordered stupid!)

Talking

it could be Darth Sidious. He is a jedi, right? If he is then why is it that the rest of the jedi don't sense his power? That's something I've been wondering since the Phantom menace.

Darth Sideous is a Dark Lord of the Sith, supposedly he is Senator Palpatine, who will go on to become Emperor. So yes, he is a Jedi, but not one of the present Council.

Why don't the Jedi Council know who he is?

Since the rise of the Dark side, the power of the Jedi has diminished. "The Dark Side clouds everything," says Yoda.

Dint U ppl listen to NEthing Windu and Yoda sed? Ther vision is clouded by the darkside.

They cant tell Palpatine's a Jedi (Sith)because he (in my opinion) is the crux of the dark side of the force, and therefore completely covered.

My feeling about Dooku is that he's lying about not knowing bout the clone army. Just makes more sense that way.

So, you think it was Dooku?

(that does seem to be the favourite opinion -- I should have made this a poll!!!)

Dooku could have ordered the army for himself, but just told the Kaminoans that it was for the republic. Remember....Obi-Wan stumbled on to Kamino by accident and that is how the republic got the army. The KAminoans were expecting a jedi (sent by Dooku). They didn't know Obi-Wan wasn't sent by Dooku. I guess it's possible.

HeyLynny, I think you explained it really well here already:

http://www.ascifi.com/forums/showthr...924#post310924

Syfo-Dyas is the real name of Jedi Master Sidious, who was a Jedi Council member who faked his own death 10 years ago. The council believe he is dead, but he has instead become Darth Sidious/ Senator Palpatine. He must have somehow changed his appearance at that time, and he uses the Dark Side to cloud things so that the council are unaware of his true identity.

Count Dooku, must have just been lying about not knowing about the Clone Army. He was speaking to members of the Trade Federation at the time, so it makes sense that he wouldn't want them to know he had been double-crossing them, and playing both sides all along.

did anyone else get chills when they first saw the clone army? especially knowing there was a good chance that the council might use them? i don't know, for me it was pretty eerie to watch them all, knowing what they would be used for in the future.

Dave, I'm glad I'm not the only one who put the story together like that. I wasn't sure if I was "reaching" or not.

'K, you guys still sound confused. How could ANY Jedi who lived so closely to Mace and Yoda fake his death then just appear as a senator and not be recognised at all? Yoda and Mace see Palpatine all the time, and while I think Yoda suspects him of something I think the Dark Side is clouding him enough so that he can't put his finger on it.

Did you see the look Yoda gave Palpatine when the Chancellor exactly anticipated Padme's words? He has suspicions, but can't be certain because the Dark Side is making that ability fuzzy, faulty.

Sifo-Dyas was an actual Jedi. So was Dooku. Two seperate men. That doesn't preclude the possibility of Dooku or Palpatine pretending to be Sifo-Dyas when ordering the clone army. Kamino is beyond the Outer Rim of the Republic, meaning it's not IN the Republic. Therefore, the Kaminoans might not even know who Supreme Chancellor Palpatine is and wouldn't recognize him as such. I suspect, however, that Dooku may have been the agent the Kaminoans dealt with (and were paid by) since he's doing all of Sidious' leg work these days. He'd probably already met with Jango before he placed the order for the clones so that he could have everything ready for them.

I want more info on Syfo-Dias, too, though. Who WAS he? Why would Sidious or Dooku use his name? Did they use his name simply because he was recently deceased? Did they kill him in order to use his name? Using the name of a dead Jedi council member would make things easier... he could never deny it.

Anyway, I still want to know more about the actual Syfo-Dias, because NO ONE in the SW universe is completely dispensible.

that kind of bugged me too. they kind of acted like we should have already heard of him, like we should have known he was already dead before they actually told us.

What about Sifo-Dyas being Qui-Gon Jinn?
Qui-Gon was padawan of Tyranus.
Qui-Gon died 10 years earlier (roughly).
Qui-Gon never appeared as a "ghost"-type of thing, although this could be due to him not being prepared for his death, but could be because he was on the darker side of things!
Qui-Gon so desperately wanted to train Anakin - a powerful ally to have on the Dark side?
Qui-Gon was always quick to contradict Master Yoda's training "But Master Yoda said I was to be mindful of the future" - "Yes, but not at the expense of the present." Could it be that Ob1 would have sensed too much?
Qui-Gon could have arranged the clone army in the name of Tyranus (his master) and thus Tyranus may not have actually known anything about it.
