Anakin's Arm.

Isn't it a little odd that Anakin, just like Luke, loses his arm?

From Count Dooku expression, it looks like he didn't mean to do it, his facial expression is one of shock.

Do you think that is because he knows that Senator Palapatine/ Darth Sideous has great plans for Anakin? Or, could Dooku be Anakin's father too?

I dont reckon Dooku's Anakins father: he's not a powerful enuff Jedi 4 my liking. I dont think he meant 2 chop off Anakins Arm, but thers no question that he knows Darth Sidius' plans 4 him. I reckon Vader intentionally chopped Luke's arm off tho: trying to bring him to the darkside in the same way as he went.

Im sure losing the Arm was signifficant to his falling on to the Darkside, which I reckon 2 be the kool side of the force, really. Why els wood they hone in on it @ the end of the film.

I was just relaying things I'd read on other boards, but I really think you are onto something there...

I agree, Anakin must revisit the loss of his arm again and again -- it's a poor replacement, it looks like C3PO's rather than the bionic arm Luke gets -- so that leads him to the Dark side (along with his anger over his mother's death, his lack of faith in the senate rather than a dictator, and his arrogance over his superior powers) -- and he cuts off Lukes arm on purpose, because he believes that it too, will bring him to the Dark side.

i was told by a friend that Darth Vader is mostly a machine and the loss of Anakin's arm was the start of Annie becoming a machine...you saw the arm at the end and it looked like a machine.

YOu also saw him become darth vader when he went to rescue his mum...he kill the women and the children out of revenge.

i actually thought that obi and annie were cloned and the annie who got his arm chopped off was the clone...like a decoy.

That's how I looked at it. The beginning of his (physical) transformation into Vader. Pretty chilling.

I was confused by Dooku altogether. In fact I might start a thread so that all you people who have seen the movie lots of times can explain to me all the bits I am having trouble with!

and they played the "Empire Strikes Back" theme song during those scenes, including the one when he explains to Darme what he had done.

I like this idea of Vader being mostly robot: replacing his flesh, which is weak, with metal, which is strong. I suspect he probably decided the flesh was weak because he was unable to keep himself from braking his jedi vows (or whatever) by marrying Pad-Me (cant say i blame him).

I understand more now

This helps me understand episoed VI better (when Luke cuts off Vaders hand and we see that it is mechanical). I wasn't sure how much of Vader was machine and how much was man. This helped tie the story together. George Lucas is great at that!

i know! see i think you really shouldn't look at them in the order they were made, but in the order they were supposed to go. luke getting his arm chopped off was symbolic of vader's/anakin's. luke was feeling a pull to the darkside already, and he already has a connection to it. when vader cuts his arm off and he gets the bionic one, it's a symbol of the legacy that his father has given him. but for luke he doesn't use it as a link to the dark side, he makes a different choice than his father and uses it as a reminder of what can happen.

I dunno, to me, his arm getting cut off is the risk of Lightsabber play. Durring the big battle with all the jedis you see lots of arms flying. However, I do like the connection Iron Harbinger makes about flesh being weak & metal strong which ties in with what Texane mentions about Anni wanting one day to stop death itself...

wouldn't you think with all the technological advances they have they'd have figured out how to reattatch limbs? especially considering that we're able to now?

I guess maybe whatever a lightsaber does (cauterises etc the wound) prevents this.

Alternatively, remember that an alternative society would not necessarily make the same technological advances at the same rates, and the SW society is a lot more spiritual/new age, and may well have developed less in surgical skills.

And even for us, reattaching a limb (as opposed to just a finger) is a quite difficult operation, with recovery of full use being uncertain, so in a culture with advanced robotics the option of a fully functional prosthetic might be considered a better choice.

That's an interesting way of looking at it. The Star Wars universe is obviously more advanced than ours, but on the other hand it does look as if they advanced in a very different way. We've never really seen any hospitals, and all the planets we have seen seem to be a mix of medieval flavour along with all the tech.

as far as i know they do have a very advanced medical science, and prosthetics are usually almost as good if not better then previous limbs, depending on who u get it from and how much u pay:rolly2:
