Or maybe it's 'cos they think if you're dumb enough to get your arm chopped off by a lightsabre once, then you are just going to do it again, so why bother sticking it back on? With a prosthetic they can just keep soldering on a new one every time...

Seriously, maybe it really was C3PO's arm. I think that is a good idea. Maybe that was all that was available at the time, (they were in the middle of a battle, on the outer reaches of the Republic.) Luke, on the other hand , was able to get hospital treatment with a new arm very quickly after Vader sliced his off, before the amputated limb began to heal over and it was too late.I had always believed that Luke's arm was a synthetically grown organic arm, but I've read that it was also meant to be mechanical, just with new skin grown over the top (think: 'Terminator'). Maybe this skin takes longer to grow -- so in Ep. III we will see Anakin with a more lifelike arm. I've also read that because of the difficulty of filming a mechanical arm in every shot, his arm would be more likely to be gloved or normal. Somehow, I doubt that is actually a real constraint on the film considering that almost every shot already has some CGI in it.

well dave from my knowledge of the star wars universe growing a new arm isnt possible, i dont think, i may be wrong. there is cloning and im sure that could be used to great effect to make new limbs, that is if the ability hadnt been lost to all but a few. I actually dont think Lukes hand was ever meant to be something that was grown, i think it was always supposed to be mechanical so there would be that similarity between luke and vader:rolly2:

I think you're right. Only the Kamino's would be able to grow a new arm. It was only what I had assumed at the time of ROTJ. Between watching the original trilogy and TPM I never read any Star Wars books and only watched the films again a couple of times so I'm not an expert at all. I think it was the fact that Luke had complete movement and feeling in the arm that lead me to believe that. I've now read since that that was deliberately done in order to show how technologically advanced an artificial limb could become. If so then it was totally lost on me when I watched ROTJ.

something to remember though although the caminos may have been able to grow new limbs there are several reasons why it wouldnt work in the case we are talking about, first the caminos would only do it for lots of money, and it wouldnt have been available for luke cause cloning was a art that was lost during or right after the clone wars, and basicly was only realy available to the emperor during the rebellion years:rolly2:

George Lucas is obssessed I want to discuss Arm loss in general. Watching the original trilogy again makes me wonder whether Lucas should see a psychiatrist: We have Anakin losing an Arm from a lightsabre. We have Luke losing an Arm from a lightsabre. We have 'Walrus Man' losing an Arm in the Cantina from a lightsabre. We have the Ice Wampa losing an Arm from a lightsabre.

lol im not so sure that hes obbsessed as such, but just that, at least as far as i can reason, the arm or hand is the easyest appendage to cut off that and still keep the scene from getting to gory, like say cutting some ones head off might do:rolly2:
