Re: Have you stopped reading Wheel of Time?

I'm still trying to bring myself to read the first book...I sort of keep finding better things to do...

But I've been told they're great, so I guess I'll see...I'm thinking of giving up on Goodkind's Sword of Truth though...

If I recall right, you are a fan of George RR Martin's ASoIaF. That being the case I suspect you'd have more fun with this series: http://www.chronicles-network.net/fo...hlight=malazan

Must admit, I stopped reading the Wheel of time around number six! Jordan just seemed to have forgotten what he intended in the first place.

Re: Have you stopped reading Wheel of Time?

Well, i read all the books up to 9th. And it was almost amusing till 9th . But damn master Jordan you forgot the whole idea that was behind the story.
I will keep reading, but i am already stuck for whole 3 months on that cursed 9th book so...i doubt it will be before the end of the year.

Re: Have you stopped reading Wheel of Time?

I have only read the first novel of the series, and I really didn't get into it too much. I think a large part of the reason, however, is because of the daunty amount of pages that still awaited me in a series that is largely felt by fans that it has lost it way and the author appears to be avoiding the ending purposely in hopes to cash in a bit longer.

I will only pick up Jordan's saga when I know for sure that he plans to end it.

But on the subject of Jordan, I must admit I loved his contribution to the Conan series. Great for a laugh, but I had to leave them behind when I emigrated.

i dont think it has anything to do with greed.. if he was greedy he would be pounding out 150 page "Goosebump" type books. His style of writting seems to include excessive detail which is cool but also frustrating at the same time. It gives good description.. definitly paints a picture in the mind of the reader.. It just seems that he could head straight for the main point instead of beating around the bush.

I'll hold my judgement on whether he is being greedy or not. My understanding was that The Wheel of Time was originally supposed to be 12 books - twelve major points on the clockface - hence the 'wheel' of time. Maybe I was imagining that?! Anyway, if he passes book 12 without resolution, then I will give up.

Re: Have you stopped reading Wheel of Time?

I myself will keep reading them as long as Jordan's hand moves across the page. the stories are filled with detail, because i think he's trying to appeal to everyone. too bad it isn't working. but I love the WoT. Matt is my favorite character of all time. after i read the 6 or 7 book , i started buying them myself. even with all the 'useless' detail, the story behind the series is good, even though it's a little cloudy at the moment.

Has anyone heard when the next one will come out? I'm not counting his New Spring novel...

Re: Have you stopped reading Wheel of Time?

I read on Robert Jordan's website, and on Amazon.com that the new book which is titled Knife of Dreams, is supposed to be released October 2005. I have read reports that the book is supposed to be done early in the spring of 2005, but he wants extensive editing done to make sure some of the errors in previous books can be avoided.

I am currently reading Lord of Chaos, and I have greatly enjoyed the series so far. I have heard though, after book 6, the story really slows down and Jordan loses some of his focus. The thing I really liked about Jordan's writing was the complexity of his world. Every book seemed to introduce new characters and the story only seems to expand. I can see the forshadowing that things may slow down, Rand really hasn't done much in Lord of Chaos....but I am only about 200 pages into it. Hopefully, I enjoy books 7-10 and beyond, but if I don't, books 1-6 were worth every penny.

So, I ain't the only one having problems with that book... It is sooooooo damned tedious to get into... Can't remember why, it is so long since I tried reading it...
