| Is the Dark Side of the Force stronger? Which is the strongest side of the Force? Do Jedi need to have full control of their emotions? If they give into their emotions do they automatically travel the path to the Dark Side? If not, what stops a Jedi from turning to the Dark Side? And, wouldn't this always make the Dark Side stronger? |

| personally I think there has to be a balance between the good and the bad. One isn't stronger than the other per say...just different. Personality and simple choice are what lead a person down the road to the Dark side and it's the darker emotions that can cause someone to take that road...but it's still a choice that person makes. |

| Good will always win in the end as it's a lot harder to become a light Jedi than a dark one & so the temptations to become a dark jedi are hopefully dulled as the padawan becomes a good jedi. :rolly2: :blpaw: |

| Which is the strongest side of the Force? The Lightside Do Jedi need to have full control of their emotions? No If they give into their emotions do they automatically travel the path to the Dark Side? No, they need to have a balance with their emotions. They can't let their emotions control them. If not, what stops a Jedi from turning to the Dark Side? Their heart. Are they will to let the darkside creep in? And, wouldn't this always make the Dark Side stronger? No, just easier. Who is the wiser man, the one who does everything that he feels like and nothing more? Or the man who has a balance between is feelings and his logic/mind? |

| I only asked because: Spoilers for Ep. II AoTC It seems that it will be the death of his mother, and his hopeless unrequited love for Amildala, as well as his arogance in his own superior abilities, that pushes Anakin towards the Emperor and the Dark side. He already showed his anger on Tatooine. On the other hand, Yoda fails to defeat Dooku because of his feelings for Obi Wan and Anakin, a big mistake. The first Trilogy showed that the friendship of the main characters was a 'force' for good. We know that Anger, Fear, Hate -- lead to the Dark side. But surely Loyalty, Love, Devotion -- must be Good character traits, yet there is a fine line to walk between them. |

| I think the dark side is stronger, but it corrupts the 'user'. I have a feeling that this corruption would then make actually using the force more difficult. Or perhaps that it is somehow less pure. I have absolutely no idea why i think this - maybe it was just how I reasoned the good guy's victories in the first trilogy... |

| No! Quicker, easier, more seductive..... So sayeth Yoda in Empire. I don't think the dark side is stronger but in a way it can be perceived as more powerful, most particularly by the user/wielder of it. I think Yoda is right, it's quick to join you in fight, it can be the natural and easiest response. The good side is stronger and more powerful if only because an individual has to be stronger and more powerful to consciously choose the good side and to act from the good side. (Hmmm, I think we could use some good Jedis in the White House and Congress!) I've always had a hard time with "Anger, Fear, Agression, the dark side are they," simply because I don't necessarily believe emotions are good or evil in and of themselves. It's what one does with these emotions, how one expresses them and feels them and acts upon them that makes them more good or evil. It takes a lot of strength and power and goodness to feel these powerful emotions and choose to express them in a healthy way instead of in an unhealthy or evil way. I also have a lot of problems with the amount of killing the Jedi or "good" ones do, particularly in Return of the Jedi. Luke is essentially on a killing spree, both in Jabba's palace and at Endor's moon. Why is not wrong for him to kill, in cold blood, so many people? Surely he is acting on aggression, revenge, hatred, in wiping out everyone on Jabba's barge (though of course I cheered when Leia nuked Jabba) or all the stormtroopers on Endor's moon? Surely there must be other ways to achieve their goals? Otherwise Yoda is hypocrite as are all the other Jedi. :star::star::star: Also, for a good discussion of power and the good and the dark side of the Force see Mara and Luke's conversations in "Vision of the Future" by Timothy Zahn. I think he brings up some good points. |

| First off, there is no shadow without light, and without darkness, how would we recognize light? They are equal and the balance between has to be mainained. Just ask Luke... and Anakin Solo. Now, Quote:
Even during his duel with Vader, he tried to reason his way out, over and over. Only when Vader threatened Leia (the ONLY family Luke had left and someone he already loved) did the emotions well up enough to overcome his reason. That's when Luke became unbalanced and nearly lost himself to the dark side. So the balance must be maintained. Can anyone say "chosen one?" | |
