Ultimately, just another ancient faulty computer that must be destroyed story.

Preparing to beam down to a planet, the landing party is attacked and first the transporter chief, and then later the geologist Lt. D'Amato are killed. The Enterprise is hurled a 1,000 light years away.

This must be the first time that Kirk refuses the affections of a beautiful alien woman. Losira (Lee Meriwether) keeps saying "I must touch you, I am for you" but the Captain spurns her requests. She would kill him, but is that enough reason?

They discover that Losira is only programmed to kill one person at a time, and manage to survive by protecting the one she has "come for" until Spock arrives, and shuts down the computer which is a planetary defence system.
