3.67: Plato's Stepchildren.

Another set of god-like beings brought down to earth by Kirk.

The Platonians once lived on Earth, and although they have great powers of telekinesis, they have no resistance to physical disease, and so require the assistance of Dr. McCoy. Once there, they force them to join in bizarre, deaming, and dangerous activites, just as in 'The Gamesters of Triskelion' and in 'The Empath'. Like 'The Empath' the landing party is helped by the one humane member of the society, in this case Alexander, a jester.

Uhura and Chapel are also beamed down to join in. This allows Kirk to say "I guess we weren't sufficiently entertaining." I will always remember this phrase because it used to come at the end of a montage of scenes on the original TNG video cassettes to promote their release.

McCoy discovers the power of telekinesis is due to the substance kironide. Kirk and Spock inject themselves with a concentrated batch of the chemical and develop the power. Somehow the power diminishes on leaving the planet, and they never remember it again. (I'm sure that it would have come in useful to them on several occasions.)
