| First of all -- CONGRATULATIONS!!! I can certainly share some of your frustrations with the world of publishing, although I only sent my manuscript to one publisher, got one rejection letter, and opted to self-publish. It was all too similar to my horrible experiences in Hollywood and the film biz, which is a big insider's game, and I was trying desperately to escape that ****. I used AuthorHouse (formerly 1st Books) for my publishing company. I could complain for hours, but in a nutshell I'm not really very keen on AuthorHouse. The main problem I had with them was their baffling and extraordinary incompetence, coupled with a really annoying lack of communication skills. But, my novel remained intact and is now finally available, so for that I am thankful. Also, as an artist, I wanted to design my own cover and advertise it in my own way, so AuthorHouse afforded me that creative freedom. I really feel we self-published writers are on the cutting edge of the evolution/revolution of publishing, so I expect it to be a struggle. It's better than having to suck up to obnoxious publishers who act like reading a manuscript (their supposed job... HELLO!!!) is doing someone a favor. I'm on to another novel now and will probably look around for a new publishing company. Maybe we should start a thread on this and people can make recommendations??? Cheers, Aurelio O'Brien www.evethenovel.com |
