| Passing this on from a friend who was there... edited to remove bits on people not pertaining to this forum.MAJOR SEASON TWO END AND SEASON THREE SPOILERS INSIDE! S P O I L E R S I had front row seats and was the second one to ask a question (I don't remember the first one...I was trying NOT to let my nerves get the better of me). I had read the Starlog article the previous evening My question was as follows: Hi Kevin...um...I'm a little nervous...gimme a sec here. Okay, I love Andromeda. I tape it religiously, I have the Cards, the Action figures, I'll be getting the DVD's it's great... *Kevin smiles and says thank you (very humbly) and starts to walk toward me, at which point I have a flash of Keith's crouch in Phoenix and say "I'm sorry but you can't come any closer. At which point he stops, walks away and then comes back.....* I read an article in the latest issue of Starlog where you're talking about the end of season two and the beginning of season three and you're quoted as saying you haven't been pleased with the Dylan/Tyr relationship and he and Beka come back in season three changed, and my question is two fold. First, can you give an example of what it is you haven't been pleased about in the Dylan/Tyr relationship? And second, can you give an example of how what's "wrong" with it will be fixed and tell us if Tyr's edge will survive the "fix". Kevin's answer. I think what's wrong with Dylan/Tyr is that Keith has been underused. He's a good actor and he ought to be used more. I think this show needs to be more about the relationship between the characters. If you keep having Dylan and Tyr always at odds it begins to become unbelievable (hehe--what was that essay I wrote? Why does Dylan let Tyr stay?). I think that you need to have them be more like partners. I like the Butch/Sundance stuff like in ES. I think at some point they need to be working together toward a common goal WHILE MAINTAINING THEIR OWN AGENDAS. There are problems. But they're being adressed. K, what he DIDN'T do (imo) is try to avoid answering it. He wasn't dismissive. He seemed to appreciate the question and take it seriously. Next question: Dylan has been compelled by circumstances to commit morally dubious acts while simultaneously trying to build a noble society. How does Dylan resolve this contradiction and how will this manifest in season three. Kevin at first digressed. He said that by season three, the foundation of a new commonwealth (the fifty worlds) will be there and Dylan will tell them it's up to them to keep it. Then he realized he wasn't answering the question: "I'm not answering the question am I?" "No, not especially." Rov then repeated it. The answer: He's not handling it well at all. (YES!!). He's got the biggest frickin' warship around and he wants to use it. He knows how powerful he is. He's holding himself back but it's a struggle and it's going to get harder. Dylan is not always right. And he's not always going to win. And what's interesting for me in playing him is that unlike Hercules, who always beat the bad guy, this is different. Dylan is facing moral dillemas and it's not cut and dried. K, the rest is more just "topics" and not individual questions. "Creative Control" I'm just one cook of many. I don't always get my way. There are 9-10 people who write notes on scripts and the writers probably say "the hell with this ****" (makes motion of crumpling a note) AND RIGHTLY SO. During shooting I'm on the phone with the writers for 2-3 hours every shooting day. This really is a team effort. "Ensemble" I was attracted to this show because it's an ensemble. I think they should do more spreading the wealth among the cast. "Guest Stars" James Marsters as Charlemagne Bruce Campbell John Delancie in a Beka/Tyr adventure that looks like a romp. BRENT STAIT. "Stunts" He is letting people do more stunts because after Herc he's tired. KEITH on the other hand likes to do his stunts. Also, Keith seems to be just a little rough on the poor stunt guys in the fights.... Speaking of fights. Kevin says Keith is a very big guy...he wouldn't want to fight him. But in the season three opener there will indeed be a big Dylan/Tyr fight. (works for me). "Printed Interviews" (this is CRITICAL Imho) "Don't believe everything you read. In 8-9 years of interviews, they've never gotten it all accurate. "Gene's vision"- Dylan isn't always going to win. It's a dark future....but there is hope. K, I know there's more but I think those are the high points. Lil p.s. It's really obvious to me that he's got a lot of affection and respect for the other cast members. p.p.s. I really meant to ask about Tyr AND Beka but the question didn't come out that way (Sorbo makes me quiver inside...he just does) HOWEVER: After Knight, Death, and Devil I am satisfied that Beka is just fine. |
