Good dissection. It is what I was going for there.

Re: Do You Write Poetry?

we all drink from the well of hope
precious,miraculous,slaking a thirst
for the cure against infernal turmoil
minds dead at first
reawaken, from the fertile soil
verdant things burst
an end to endless toil,
to dragging ourselves ,creaking and groaning
to an untidy ,remorseful end
awaits us all, around the river bend

oh boy that sucks

Re: Do You Write Poetry?

As long as a poem means something to its creator, it can never "suck", Ben.

Re: Do You Write Poetry?

No Leisha is right as long as it's good for YOU who cares what other people say. And I do like it so it doesn't suck so there.

I don't think it sucks, either. Or was that the title?

Re: Do You Write Poetry?

the title was
Kellogg's Cornflakes ,a healthy nutritional breakfast

before we put in additives, starches, sugars, potassium chloride
and Scooter Libby's dandruff

Re: Do You Write Poetry?

Heck, man, that title is almost as long as your poem! Hopelessly long, I'd say. And a tad odd. The poem is nice, though.

Re: Do You Write Poetry?

First time - let me down gently, please!

Herb Benedicta.

I found today Herb Bennet
growing in my garden, next
the slow-nodding foxgloves,
beside the cruel bramble.
Five-petalled, glowing yellow,
not where you might expect it,
a flower of the hedgerow,
and woodland places. A herb
whose root once kept the Devil from the door,
repelling all venomous beasts, and witches.
Named Herba Benedicta, the Blessed Herb,
Proof against the "flatulent wind",
the stitch and upset stomach.
There it was in my garden
thrusting up its shining head
among the lofty foxgloves.

So I took it up
and placed it in a jar of water
and there it glows, bright yellow, at me,
Telling the story
of its long-gone useful life.
Of course, it's ousted now
by synthetic pills, which tell me not of ancient ills,
And trapped in their small bottles,
Have no yellow suns to shine.

Re: Do You Write Poetry?

You can be sycophantic if you want, Ben - here, in this thread, I would really prefer an honest opinion....

Re: Do You Write Poetry?

my honest opinion is that it is straight from the heart, very well composed, and it hit me where it counted the most, and if that's the case i dont give a flying eff about meter, rhyme etc
Bit of betjeman in there, don't know a heck of a lot of UK poets
all poetry springs from the heart Py,and targets the heart.
You hit the target

I love it Pyan, particularly that it keeps flatulence at bay.
