Hi,

Just watched 'children of the gods' on asf from some episodes archive site and it is uncut. Which was a bit of a suprise as I didn't know that there was one. I definently haven't seen any in the UK, have they been shown in the US?

It was about 5 minutes longer than the tv one I watched and showed Sha're's breasts (had to say that to avoid it being censored!) when she was inspected by Apophis and Amonet which was kinda nice

Yes, it's a copy of the full, uncut version with the full frontal nudity and a couple of small bits on Abydos and Chulak that were cut from the original.

I've only ever seen this ep on DVD which is 'uncut' was it really cut when first put onto tv? if so why did they make it in the sirst place if the show was made for tv?

I think the US censors probably had a fit. not too uncommon.

it was initially made for Showtime, now whether or not they knew it was going to be syndicated immediately or not, i don't know -

i do know, however, that CotG is the only ep of SG-1 to get a TVMA rating - the rest are TVPG (i think) --

tho, that doesn't really answer the question 'why did they add the naked woman if it was gonna be on tv?' --

but those scenes are only cut for the syndicated version - not the Showtime version -- Showtime is a 'pay cable' movie channel in the US and can run higher rated stuff -- but, most of the channels that picked up the show for syndication don't go higher than the 'TVPG' rating, so nudity and 'dirty words' have to be taken out --- the 'naked Shau're' scene doesn't really 'add' or 'detract' from the episode - you know that Apophis is 'looking her over' whether you - the viewer - actually see all of her or not -- and i think that's really the point ---

In the UK, apart from the Sha're nudity stuff, I think they also had problems with the censor giving a PG to the Goa'uld symbiote shots a) entering Sha're; b) Teal'c showing his off on the escape, and also c) Kawalski getting "done" right at the end. All three of these were removed for the UK terrestrial TV showing.

what do you mean by "Kawalski getting "done" " I don't remember anything particulrly scary or grose with him...What part are you thinking of?

I am thinking of the very end of Children of the Gods, where the symbiote jumps from Casey, and into Kawalski. I, er know some bloke I met at the pub

who still has the original terrestrial showing on videotape, and any showing of the actual symbiote has been cut!

I would not have said it was scary, per se, but it was shown at about 4pm local time. So, the censors may have said "no evil snakes!"

I was watching this one on channel 4 here in the uk today and it had looads of stuff in it that Ihad never seen before..I have this one on video (the mgm one) and none of the scene I saw today are on it.
For example the scene where Jack takes Daniel home and they talk about Sara and loads of other stuff...way cool!!

THose are some of the best parts. I have a copy of the vid and it has them. probably the main reason I got it. I sure didn't know about them when it showed on TV the first time.
