Copyrights and Legal Stuff... Can someone explain this to me, I am having trouble understanding it: "The site AusGate's Stargate Command is copyright ©1998-2000 AusGate. AusGate holds all copyrights pertaining to design and layout of this site and to any original text articles. The information contained within this site is copyright © MGM-UA World Wide television, Showtime, Gekko Film Corporation, Glassner/Wright Double Secret Productions and Stargate SG-1 Productions LTD. The information contained in this site is a representation of information from the above sources, and is meant for entertainment purposed only." I get the part saying that it is copyrighted to said groups and individuals... So what does the entertainment purposes only mean? And what is the purpose of AusGate? To have fun? No, someone is paying good money for something, not just fun. Is it to attract and maintain viewers of the show?

As I understand it: a) all the SG-1 photos, certain names, phrases and so on are trade-marks and/or copyright of MGM etc. b) anything else, particularly new stuff in the quizzes, layouts and descriptive text, is copyright AusGate c) the Ausgate site acknowledges much of what it shows is based on material from the MGM copyrighted source d) the AusGate site is for entertainment, and is not to make anyone any money especially AusGate e) if you email admin@stargate-command.com they will probably send you a copy of the policy f) wouldn't you need to be on the site to borrow from it? g) since the Borrowing Policy is itself part of the "original material" of the site, it is itself protected by copyright legislation, and so shouldn't be reproduced on other sites such as this one without appropriate permissions! ![]() However, here is my journalistic review of the Ausgate "Borrowing Policy". It is a fine and clear reference to the fact that much of the Ausgate site material is not original but based on other, previously copyright material. It makes very plain that all webmasters wishing to borrow material should contact the AusGate webmasters who will provide source material. In similarity with other Borrowing Policies this allows the destination webmaster to ensure they themselves are applying the copyright laws correctly. I found the wording of the policy most forthright and understandable. P'Teppics rating: 9.5/10

A-D,G) Thanx. E) No one every replies on that e-mail address. F) No, I have most of the site copied as webpage files on my PC. I said I wouldn't go back on the site didn't I? I'd rather not return there, thank you. I'll just go to the other site and help make it, and we'll let some of you in to view it, not some... PTeppic is welcome, but Andy, lzrman and I need to build it first. I am not borrowing from the site, rather I wish to read from it. Unless reading is borrowing...

You need to ask for permission to use the material even if your just going to read, regardles of the reasons for wanting it even if it's just to read for what ever reason, so make sure you word it properly for leagl reasons on both sides.

And having already said you have copied "most of the site" is NOT a good way to start a discussion about borrowing. This SOUNDS very much like steal first, rename to borrowing with permission later.

[ a) this is starting to drift out of topic again ] b) such a job would only have two purposes + for general internet security: which should require physical access to the server, or very easy and fast access to it + if you have "members"; a non-member general website is global access, and difficult to stop people getting to, without server-side controls. Similarly password controls are limited in use without server-side applications
