The episode was a good conclusion to the 9 years, it cleared up a few things for me, but there were other things I didn't understand. The 'shippy' finale didn't matter to me, but I'm glad it made someones day.

The Super-soldiers
When we first met them, I asked how Doggett didn't realise his marine buddy had been one during Vietnam. It now appears that they aren't the real humans, but 'alien replacements'. That means that there is a body somewhere to be found, or, do they take over the human bodies, like the 'black oil' or 'invasion of the body snatchers'?

Mulder's Visions
Were Krycek, the Lone Gunmen and X, real visions of dead people, like Mulder said he would like to believe in? Or has Mulder just gone a little crazy and is seeing things? He was tortured until the point that he believed he was guilty, that does things to your mind. On the other hand, they did tell him things that were true, that he couldn't otherwise have known.

The Alien Invasion Date
Forgotten the date -- sometime in 2012 (I'll have to put it in my calendar) Apparently it's the last date in the Mayan calendar.

We were lead to believe that Mulder was witholding some great piece of evidence that would clear him. But, all we got was this date. An unsubstantiated date is hardly any proof! Do you think he still has more evidence. He is still a wanted Murderer, so the story still continues, and that gives Chris Carter about 10 years in which to make the next film (or films) -- clever -- he won't end up like other film series (ie. Terminator) when future events have already not happened.

I was thinking about this too, and that whole scene with CSM in the mountain with Mulder and Scully - and Mulder wont tell her the big truth. I'm finding it hard to believe that whole Truth is just a date (so ok, its a pretty important date), there could be some big thing he discovered and the date just verified it all (and this thing he discovered was the thing Mulder didnt want to tell Scully, and the thing CSM was so sure she'd be afraid to hear?) - I know i'm reaching and its all guesswork and will never be verified, but this is half of the fun of the X-Files lol I just cant quite get my head round the fact that this date would have cleared Mulder of the murder charge - i dont think anything would have cleared Mulder of the murder charge, CC made that pretty clear throughout the eps.

Well, the x-files has come to an end. :crying:

BUT thank goodness for repeats (LOL)

I was a tad disappointed with the whole Truth thing. I can't believe it all came down to a date in the future.

It was good seeing some of the old characters making an appearance, and yes I do believe that they were obviously all ghostly figures. They gave Mulder the strength to carry on.

There is a choice of four, 'Redrum' is one of the others. None of them were what I would put in my top five.

I absolutely LOVED this episode! I liked how they wrapped everything up, and also the return of characters, dead and alive.

I'm also sooo happy that there was a happy ending, with Mulder and Scully all in love and everything. At the beginning, when they first met again in the prison, i was mad at Mulder for being so mean. But when he explained it was all an act, and kissed Scully - aaaaawwww, how cute was that? Felt a bit sorry for Skinner tho, he looked kinda embarrassed!

I'm happy that Mulder was back, it hasn't been the x-files since he left. And he was looking really cute in those jeans!

I was unhappy with the "truth" part of the episode. But I too was happy with the return of characters, even in less than corproreal form. It just wouldn't have been an ending without The Gunmen, Krycek, and CSM, who added so much to the show I loved for so long. At least they did give me that much out of a show that while I loved, was at least in my opinion, going downhill. I said it once and I meant it. The X-Files wasn't the same without Mulder and a few other key characters.

What the Dat meant was that all the sacrifiece and trials that the agents went through didn't affect the alien agenda at all. The aliens now think nothing well stop them. Mulder hoped by getting the Truth out the international human Community would come together and fight. Well he still has 9 years.

Well, it's been a while since I saw the final episode, but I remember it having a pretty cool feel to it, that it was rather well-written and that the ending offered a powerful mix of hope and dread. So I really liked it, and I was more disappointed by the fact that the show was no more than by the episode itself. But I'd forgotten about the date (2012)--thanks for pointing it out!

In an interview with SFX last month, when asked if he would like to direct an X-Files movie, David Duchovny replied, "I think Chris Carter wants to direct the next one, so I wouldn't be able to."

So that suggests that a new one is in the pipelines, but I don't know if it's been given the go head yet.

It would be pretty cool if they concluded everything, but they sure are taking their time with this movie. If they do make a movie, I'd definitely like to see it:alienooh:

It seems soooooo long since I've seen this episode. I must dig out my Season 9 DVD set and watch it again.

There is a thread about the X-Files movie with more 'news'.

Re: 9.19 / 9.20 : The Truth (parts 1 & 2.)

The Truth was a great finale, lots of closure, lots of old friends.
