well really it depends on what you want done at any given time. I mean Legolas according to the movie lore at least it supposedly 2931 years old so that means he has had a serious amount of time to hone his skilles. He is an excellent bowman and yes he does have swords....two of them to be exact and he is a good two handed fighter. Aragorn hasn't had the time but is also an excellent fighter in his own right. You need magic or Firepower and Gandalf would be the choice to make. The Hobbits are excellent at throwing rocks and are also good shots with a shortbow, and can Sam wield a frying pan or what?!

Gimli is a solid fighter and can take a lot of hits. Boromir like Aragorn was basically born with a sword in his hand so to speak. They all have thier good points. All around I would have to say Legolas mostly due to practice factor.

I still believe overall they are all good fighters, that is the reason they were chosen to asked to go into the Fellowship, but by far Gandalf is one of the strongest in my opinion... he didn't get the name Gandalf the Grey for nothing

Before I finish wading through ALL the replies, I had to choose Aragorn. Question was, who's the better fighter, and it's got to be Aragorn, hands down.

Legolas is the most awesome with a bow, no doubt, and those knives are very lethal, too, but Aragorn has successfully used a bow (remember Moria), any sword he lays hands on, daggars, fists, even his head (poor boy)... so overall Aragorn is the better fighter.

All the others have their strengths, too, no doubt of that. So I can see why others might chose them in this poll, but the question was pretty specific, and I think that Aragorn is simply the only answer.

Edited to add: I had a bunch more to say after seeing your answers, but it got lost in my old computer. Just finished setting up my new one, so I think we should keep this discussion going... it's great!

TTT spoilers sort of

Anyway, after seeing TTT (not that I didn't know what would happen) it's still Gandalf. Killing one Balrog is worth more than a thousand Orcs. Also he had that awesome charge into the Orcs.

To those who voted Legolas, remind me again what the final score was for the competition with Gimli at Helms Deep.

Yeah, specific... not who's better, but who's the better fighter. And Gandalf is pretty good with a sword, better with a spell (but he couldn't out do Saruman on Caradras) and if you're not careful, he'd could probably kill you with his wit, but I still say Aragorn is a better fighter.

Gimli did kick quite a bit of Orc butt at Helm's Deep, didn't he?

First I want to say Hi, Im shaunte and I love LOTR.
Never really over here on the LOTR part of ascifi, I usually hang around the stargate part, but I wanted to see what the LOTR fans were up to.

I voted for Legolas because the way he uses his bow is amazing. don't know if I'm sayin that , probably cause he's SSSSSSOOOOOOO HHHHHHOOOOOTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But who knows, he's still pretty good with the bow;-)

Yeah, gotta agree with those assessments... :naughty:

Legolas uses the bow in a unique and very efficient style... meaning of course, that Orlando does an outstanding job acting like he's that accomplished with one. Kudos to the boy!

gonna have to say that Boromir was the best fighter, he was so tired, arrows in him, cuts, bruises and slashes and was still standing trying to fend off lurtz :lifeup:

That scene was so good at the end! Probably already said this but I think Aragorn is the best fighter, that little pose he does though when he sticks his sword in someone (he kind of tosses his head) makes me laugh though! Viggo's really getting into it!

no contest Aragorn all the way, im sure Legolas and Gandalf could give him a run for his money since they are pretty old and have some experince fighting also, but Strider is the king
