Re: Metal Wow, this thread is old! Metal is one of those genres where you've got so many sub-denominations it can make your head spin. Labelling everything heavy metal is wrong though, most bands that are considered such actually aren't. Metallica, Pantera, etc are all pre-dominantly thrash metal bands - in the case of Metallica, they've changed for the worse, switching genres lately, but I consider them thrash because it was in that period they made their real contributions to the genre. And labelling Nirvana heavy metal (WTF)? It's not even metal, it's grunge! Audioslave live was a disappointment for me as well. The band just doesn't mesh with what Chris Cornell is trying to make it. They closed with a couple of RATM songs when they played at the Quart Festival here in Norway a few years ago and I felt really ambigious about it. True, Morello still rocked out like nothing else, but Cornell just couldn't get the energy going like de la Rocha did. Such a shame he split with the band - they were a revolutionary band. @cornelius Great to see another Amon Amarth fan! They're really putting out some great metal with some very different vibes from the main Swedish metal scene in Goteborg. Too bad Norway's fallen so far behind Sweden in the new generation of death/black metal - I'm worried for our scene.

Re: Metal I'm really into metal, and especially black metal. Some bands I really like: Immortal Satyricon Emperor Dark Funeral Koldbrann Endstille 1349 Darkthrone Angantyr (really good stuff from Copenhagen MySpace.com - Angantyr - København - Black Metal - www.myspace.com/angantyr) Ljå Rimfrost Dude! Norway is still king. There are many good underground things cominc out of Sweden but there are bands like 1349, Koldbrann, Ljå and Urgehal that keep representing Norway. You will always be kings of Black Metal!

Re: Metal I just joined this site, and I'm so glad to see this thread is active, as I recently became a born-again metalhead. I was into all the big thrash bands back in the late 80s/early 90s, but kind of lost interest after that. All that changed once I heard Lamb of God and Mastodon. They woke me up to the fact that there was more to the current scene than nu-metal. I started to get back into it, and on a whim, I bought a Cannibal Corpse CD, figuring, "this'll be too extreme for me, but what the heck? I'll have one death metal CD in my collection and go on as usual." My life changed that day. Death metal was the music I'd always needed, I just hadn't known it. I love the aggression coupled with the amazing musicianship. I love how truly international the genre is. I love how, just like jazz (my other musical passion), there are simply no rules. To me, it's what metal was always meant to become. Just wish I'd been aware of it 15 years ago when it was getting on its feet. Some of my favorites: Amon Amarth, Behemoth, Decapitated, Dying Fetus, Napalm Death, Nile, Opeth, Origin, Suffocation... I could go on and on, and my need-to-buy list is still huge. I'm also starting to listen to some black metal. Emperor and Immortal just blow me away. At 35 years old, I'm back to wearing black t-shirts, and I've never felt more like myself. \m/ (><) \m/

Re: Metal Anybody ever listen to Galactic Cowboys? I don't think I've ever met anyone else that has listened to them. Probably a bit too silly lyrically for most metalheads, but they're one of my favorites for that very reason.
