Look Here!

Can you think of something more annoying in Star Wars than characters like this one???

http://www.starwars.com/databank/character/jaxxon/

I mean, one of the things I liked more in SW when I was a kid was the fact that was SO ALIEN!!

There were no wheeled vehicles, men went around in ponchos, robes or other 'exotic' garments and there were ALLL those strange and exotic creatures.

Then in the last few years guys contributing to the Expanded Universe (especially in the RPG...) have begun popping out these 'teriomorphic' races which do look like something out of a Dizzney movie.

They do not belong to STAR WARS!!

That's how I see it.

You can say EVERYTHING you want on Jar Jar and Gungans but AT LEAST you'd have to concede that they DO LOOK ALIEN!

Especially that mean guard officier with the mustachios....lolololol!

Rabbit-Like aliens...where will do end up?

Right now I am toying with the idea of creating a ULTRA MIGHTY bounty hunter from this risible race and naming him 'Woundwart' like that mean dude featured in Richard Adam's 'Watership Down' -Do you remember that book or the animated movie that was made from it?? Gave me the creeps for weeks
when I saw it in primary school....how could 'rabbits' be so vicious??-

See you in space,

Admiral Meltan Hralgo.

Re: Look Here!

Giant bunnies? Well, I'm sure the pre-teens will love it...

I do quite agree with the entire alien-ness of Star Wars, though. The Cantina bar in Star Wars itself was just so brilliantly filled with alien creatures, from the completely weird Hammerhead to the rather normal yet still alien Snaggletooth; from the strange-faced Walrus, to the familiar "grey"-styled aliens playing the instruments.

I found there was something missing of that in Phantom Menace - Jar Jar was a little cartoonish, but perhaps passable - but a lot to do with the pod-race - from the entrants themselves, to the owner of Anakin - just seemed more cartoon than alien, which I found somewhat disappointing.

Still, at least none of them looked like bunnies.

Re: Look Here!

Oh the cantina scene is a classic. Mainly for the reason you describe. One of the problems I had with Phantom Menace was just that, why were there so many 'humanoid' aliens - a perfect example of this is the Council meeting. They all looked so normal. Not enough purple and green and blue funky aliens.

Ack! Watership Down. I'm afraid that rabid bunny cartoon unsettled me for years. For some reason I would watch it over and over again, but it was truly creepy.

Re: Look Here!

My problem with the aliens in Star Wars is that there are simply too many different species. I mean, you hardly ever see more than one from a species- it's just not possible.

And yet sound in space and giant angrav units and laser swords are entirely feasible.

Re: Look Here!

I really never got into the expanded series that much for this exact reason. I really get lost on some of the new characters and I don't need to know everything about all the worlds in the system. I like the books that deal with extended adventures of the main characters from the original series like Han, Luke, etc. but not much more.
