Why is Ausgate No longer An Aussie Site????

As an Aussie I appreciate all the new sites that we create.
But I have to wonder ,when I have to wait for other time zones ,when I know that the site was created by an Aussie..
Why do I seem to always have to wait for an Americans opinion.
It pisses me off.....If Ausgate really is Austalian Gate. Why are we on American Time?

The time issue is easy. The site is hosted on a server in the USA. There's not much I can do about this.

Question, probably for GeekMan, rather than GateCon/AusGate. Can the server not run in GMT, even if "physically" in CST?

[And this of course has nothing (much) to do with the Embassy being located in GMT ]

Angry

I'm quite offended by what appears to be a xenophobic attitude in Sumoner's post...knowing what a hard time Allan and Geekman have had with the site and keeping it up and functional AND the fact that Geekman had the wherewithall to be able to host Ausgate in order to keep it from being shut down indefinitely...

SO WHAT if Geekman and the servers are here in America and that an American had the ability to host the site and that the servers are on American time...

SO WHAT if it's gone international...attribute it to Allan's genius and ability AND to the popularity of the show...after all, the show has American and Canadian actors in it and is filmed in Canada (as if it mattered--it's a good show)...

ENOUGH with the xenophobia...it serves no useful purpose other than to "piss" otherwise peaceful people off...

hmmm...
This bench is warm enough now I think...

Firstly I'll introduce myself. My name is RaTY, Im Australian, and I started visiting stargate-command on a regular basis in the weeks leading up to its closure and subsequent relocation last year. However, during the wait for it to come back online, I got sidetracked and forgot all about the site.
A few days ago, I let one of the tech guys at work use my comp as a practice tool. He ended up handing over a list of all the websites I had visited over the past 18months (yeh it was a big list). I scrolled down and saw stargate-command.com
Been back at it since yesterday :rolly2:

Now, I can easily see where sumoner is coming from in his post.
The site is called AUSGATE, and was designed by an Australian (Im presuming).
I don't see anything wrong with questioning American "Time-Rule" over a site that has a different country in its name. In fact, I would expect it from any Australian.
Why was it automaticly assumed that xenophobia was the motivation behind such a question?
Personal insecurities? Who knows.

In any case. The site has a derivivitive of Australia in its name, is hosted in the United States, and has an Australian creator. The time it runs on is a trivial matter at best, and is up to the powers-that-be to decide on.

My personal opinion?
I think it should be on GMT.

<shuts mouth to prevent speech against America-bashing> It is on US time since Geekman, an AMERICAN, has the site running off an American server. Allan still owns the site, runs it, and maintains it. The only change is that the site is running out of a few boxes here on American soil.

And that post wasn't xenophobic. Nope, it was more along the lines of "Capitalist Pigs" and "Once again, the US asserts its stranglehold on a foreign nation and its resorces." Yep, that's what we did. We sent our covert ops to Australia, broke into Allan's house, and stole his site. But we left him an admin password, and said "This site is yours, we just want to make sure it runs, so we are going to put it on a new server." USA = Uncaring Socialist A**holes

Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to buy a Gameshark/Memory Card for my Playstation 2, and crush the economic system of Peru.

So many choice phrases come to mind reading that post.
I just dont have the courage to say them in a politicaly correct world.

I am a patrotic Australian.
I am an army reservist who has done peacekeeping duties in East Timor.

Pardon my venting. I've just been told someone I know has been killed in Afghanistan.

Oh, and just to clarify, my question about time-zones was on the following basis, and had nothing to do with actual countries:

a) a purely technical "can't the server be run on ANY time-zone" question - and I don't know the answer, this was not rhetorical

b) most people know where their home-time is relative to GMT, but CST may be more obscure to some

c) it was only a question

d) I do actually have a preference for where the AusGate server is located - not in my dining room [I think Mrs Ambassador would object to having to dust it!]

In this alternate reality aren't we all in a different time zone?:rolly2:

What time zone is the service record? It sure is different from here in the states.

I would say that when we are up we are up and we are not we are not. Or as in a question.... Where is here? Is it everywhere you are???

The time thing

Hello again...well as far as the time difference goes, as per Sumoner's post, I am in the USA and the time is off for me...I am on the east coast which is EST and the server is on CST so I too, am constantly confused...but I do not reallly care...I have made many friends "down under" and the time factor is something we discuss regularly! As long as I have AusGate..I can live the time issue.

I am just grateful to have such a wonderful site on which I have been so fortunate in making some really terrific new friends!

Thanks again to all those involved!

Helen

What I want to know is "Why does it matter?" I don't train in accordance to any time frame. I train WHEN I can, which isn't often

Up until now, I was under the impression that Ausgate was on PST (Pacific Standard), not my OWN time zone (I am CST). Still, I don't see the problem. It is only a couple of numbers.
