Violence erupts within Angel's (David Boreanaz) gang as a demonic boy (guest star Justin Shilton) brings primal rage to the surface of men, turning them hateful and murderous towards women. As Wesley (Alexis Denisof) and Gunn (J. August Richards) turn on a frightened Fred (Amy Acker), Cordelia (Charisma Carpenter) fears the onslaught of Angel's dark side. David Grossman directed the episode written by Tim Minear & Jeffrey Bell.

This was a fantasic episode...they covered some really good stuff in this one.

I think that Wesley and Fred would make a great couple.
:rolly2:
Althought not too sure that this will happen.
Felt really sorry for Wesley though..seems he went through some bad times in his childhood form what he has said in other episodes and him turning on Fred like that must make him feel like he could be turning into his parents.

Also like the fact that both Cordy and Fred are taking a more active role in the fighting...what with Cordy training with Angel and Fred knocking Gunn out and setting that trap for Wesley...you go girls!!

Overall I really liked this one and was crying along with Wes at the end...bless him!

Cool

Very good episode. Loved the way Billy used his influence on people and how the bad side of them appeared.

Felt sorry for Fred being chased round the hotel by Wesley, reminded me a bit of 'The Shining'.

Am glad Billy got his comeuppance at the end.

Yeah I was also glad that Billy got what was coming to him but I wish Cordy had been the one to do it....

Just thought this episode had one of the most hysterically funny bits of the whole Angel saga. Didn't stop laughing for about five minutes after:

Homicidal maniac Wesley hunts Fred who agrees with Wesley that she does like hiding in dark places, then points out that he's forgotten that she also likes making things and splatters him with her fire-extinguisher device

We didn't see that one coming either

Best wishes,
Hatshepsut

I felt really sorry for Wesley at the end especially as he thought that the homicidal psychopath he turned into was somehow buried deep in him. A bit scary if you're faced with the possibility that you may be a closet blood thirsty misogynistic. Plus I imagine it hasn't really helped his crush on Fred become more of a reality. Definitely an influence from the Shining - made me think I wouldn't fancy living in a deserted hotel - no-one would hear you scream...

I enjoyed this episode enormously. From the pre-credits training sequence (Angel: "Go Team"  ) right through to Cordelia's final words "I'm starting to get used to being freaked out and comforted at the same time" I loved every minute.

I began to roll my eyes when Cordelia gave the "no man has a right..." blurb to Lilah, but it actually came off really well, and although it just seemed a bit too convenient that Lilah had a down-to-the-wire change of heart, her characterisation seemed fairly consistent. When Cordelia was talking to her about being helpless and totally at someone's mercy, I was thinking about Lilah's relationship with Wolfram & Hart - and in particular the scene where she was almost 'terminated' last season. It makes me wonder why she stays with the firm at all. After all - "no woman strong enough to wear the mantle of vicious bitch should put up with it"
When Gavin attacked Lilah I almost jumped off my seat - I was definitely not expecting that. Quite surprised there was no post-fight Lilah/Gavin scene, that might have been interesting - one more reason for them to hate each other.

Cordelia was pretty great in this ep. To Billy: "No asswipe... I'm here to send you back" You go girl! Do you think she would have had the guts to actually kill that guy. SHe did quite a lot of James Bond style chatting, after all, if she was really there to kill him, she should have just done it and got it over with.
Cordelia and Angel's relationship continues to grow. I am not particularly shippy, but it is nice to see them becoming so friendly. The exchange between the two, when Cordelia is saying how Billy's freedom is all her fault, was very touching.

Wesley stalking Fred in the hotel was very like the Shining - even before he started to hack away at that bedroom door (BTW - how long did it take him to get through that door??? Forever!!!)
"What do you tell a woman with two black eyes? Nothing you haven't already told her twice"
He made quite a chilling psychopath didn't he? His dialogue was pretty spot on and Denisof did an excellent job. Best Wesley episode for a while IMO.

I liked Gunn's realisation that he was infected too, and his swinging between telling Fred to blatter him and threatening her. What I didn't like about that whole section was Fred's response "but you forgot I also like to build things", um, what things? I have missed a few of the other early season three eps, but this just confused me.
I didn't like Fred at the end of the season, and finally seeing these eps I missed isn't helping me like her any better...

Weren't you just waiting for Billy to change Angel? I am glad it didn't have any effect - or Angel was able to control it, whatever. If it hadn't, then the story would have been too similar to that season one ep where Angel is drugged with the bliss-inducing stuff.

I might have missed this, but was it mentioned at all how exactly Billy got to Hell? I though his cousin was surprised to see him because he tought Billy was dead, but that's not how it turned out. How does a normal person (and a member of a politicians family at that) go to hell without anyone noticing?
Speaking of the cousin - his conversation with Angel was funny,
Angel: "Cordelia thinks I'm melodramatic?"
Cousin: "Well you did say you were going to kill my cousin"
Angel: "That's not melodrama..."

Overall very good episode, looking forward to watching it again and again when the DVD's finally come out!

And finally: "Speaking of saliva, where's Cordelia?"

This was a great episode, loved the 'Angel meets The Shining' theme, and it was nice to have an episode thats Wesley based. It was also a good episode to show that girls can stick up for themselves - Cordy with a crossbow (though the sword was cooler), Lilah shooting Billy, and Fred hitting Wes with a fire extinguisher! I laughed so hard at that, tho i'm not sure it was meant to be funny...

I thought that Alexis did a great job at the portrayal of a psychopath, and it made a refreshing change to have someone besides Angel turning evil for once.

I was thinking the same thing - in the time it took him, Gunn and Fred had the conversation about plan B, Fred knocked out Gunn, Fred built the fire extinguisher thing, and found a place to hide! Thats some slow hacking!

The only thing i can think of is from last episode "Fredless", when she made a demon decapitating machine thing. Did she make stuff in Pylea?

And the last scene with Fred and Wes - that was so sweet! It was really good of Fred to realise that it wasn't Wesley doing that stuff, and to forgive him. I like her a lot more for it. But i don't think Wesley will ever forgive himself, i cried like a baby through the whole scene. So it looks like a relationship with those two is out. Not that i mind, i think Fred and Gunn would make a much better couple!
