I think that the Elve's are the pansies of Middle Earth. They would have been picked on by all the other races and then went home cying. All they do is sing, dance and be merry. What kind of life is that? Also they were created perfect, immortal, eagle eyed, light footed, beautiful (I don't see how they can be beautiful if you can barely tell the sexes apart) and magical. Yet when they're threatened, they run away from middle earth leaving everyone else to fight.

I'm not saying I don't like Elve's it's just that way too much time was spent on their history and race. And Elrond is one of my favourite characters.

i love elves, if they are fragile, why do they have bows etc, they didn't leave the men to do all the fighting when Isilder got the ring! they fought with them with a big army! or did u forget that part?

I didn't think trolls lived in little holes. I know they lived in caves and big holes, but little ones??? Do you know how big they are? And how do you know Trolls are grumpy anyway? No, they died helping to protect Middle Earth. I'm not saying all Elves are the same, some are cowards and some are brave.

Yeah, standing back and shooting at the enemy from a distance is real brave and strong

. They only used other weapons when the enemy got too close.

Don't you find it odd that out of all the army it was a man who defeated Sauron and took the ring?

Again I say I don't think all Elves are like this. And aren't I allowed to have an opinion that's different to your own.

I think Shaun's right, accept that he/she has a different opinion. However, I also think that fighting is fighting, they are all soldiers, different methods of fighting have different pro's and cons and it doesn't make anyone any more braver to stand and fight at a distance, or hand to hand, only more confident in their way of fighting, and it seems that both Man and Elves can use both bows and arrows and swords. Each to their own, be it opinions or preferred method of fighting.

I admire the Elves on being joyful all the time, but then, their whole world is so different to ours, so maybe we can't compare.

Also, I don't think as a race, Elves are cowardly, but there are cowards in all races, to point out the obvious. Wormtongue? And what race was he?

I don't think there's anything remarkable about that a Man managed to defeat Sauron, the Ring has been in the hands of hobbit's as well, and they're yet another race, it has probably been in the hands of Elves before (I have no idea tho, all I've read of Tolkien is TLOTR), and was offered to them at Rivendell, if I remember correctly.

So, I just think, accept others think differently, don't judge a race on one (very fine man), or a person on one opinion about a fictional world.

The biggest problem I have with them as a race was that, as I already said, they are almost perfect. I don't think Tolkien gave them many (or any) faults. Do people agree with that?

Of course they used other weapons when the enemy got close! and its way better to stand back shooting because less of the army would get killed and its what they are best at!

its been proven in history that if you have an excelent artilery line (eg archers) and an army, that you will have a better chanse of winning... i mean look at the British Longbowmen... they were deadly in medievil battles... and they won a lot for them!
