6.01 Bargaining, pt. I

Buffy's death drives some of her friends to extreme measures.

Ok so over here in the UK we saw this as one two hour long episode...not spilt into two parts so I will try and remember what happened in what part!!

Good to have the show back first off.

Not too sure if I like the fact that Willow has all these powers that were being shown off this episode. It also felt like she had changed a little...not her old self anymore!
Kinda weird with having the Buffy bot around

Sadest part was Giles leaving. Nice thought for the gang to all go and find him at the airport. Not gunna be the same without him a plus he is my fave character!

Not sure why Xander won't tell anyone about his engagement!
Glad to see that Anya is back to her usual self and saying things all wrong at the wrong time!

Cool

Definitely great to have Buffy back on our screens.

Willow does seem to have changed an incredible amount since last season. Was quite surprised when saw the first part of the eppy.

It was sooooooooooo sad to see Giles leaving, in a way I wish the Scooby Gang had told him what they were intending to do, but hey we're not the writers.

Those demons were very ugly looking. Great effects tho.

i thought the Willow changes were really cool. I loved her having so much power.

Giles leaving was sad, i thought the gifts were really sweet though and highly imaginative.

Spikes is acting really sweet too, being all protective of Dawn, and having 'gone off' the Buffy bot. It's great. You sure he doesn't have a soul??

a good start to the new season! Willow has definitely had a growing up period over teh summer while Buffy was gone. She became the leader of the scooby gang with Giles not being at his best, and her mystical strength has definitely increased...

Not quite sure where Pt I stops and Pt 2 begins, so I'll say more in that thread...

[markpud: Not quite sure where Pt I stops and Pt 2 begins...]

Just so everyone will know, because it wasn't made clear in the premiere. When the show goes into syndication, it will appear as two episodes divided at the point where Buffy is resurrected in her coffin.

The first scene of the next episode will be the Buffy-bot fighting the demon gang over Buffy's grave.

Kind of an awkward place to cut it, but I guess it had to be. There was a lot of story that had to happen before Buffy's return.

I'm not sure that this is such a standout episode except for the obvious elements that it lays the groundwork for. For example, Xander/Anya's engagement announcement is something that we now know is festering between them. Most of the things that take place in this show will have to be dealt with in more detail later this season. For that, it's a great show.

that's true.

What about the forces that Willow was channelling for the spell? Some pretty powerful stuff, and i'm sure the consequences will be evident in later episodes...

Buffy bot had a pretty grand showing, the returning to Willow when damaged thing was funny bot:"I need service"...demon:"I'll service you.." Perhaps a little programming in hte art of not leading a gang of biker demons back to the humans would have been a good idea

even in sunnydate people who get buried in proper graves in cemetarys have to be registered, surely.

So Buffy is registered dead, yet they're using the bot as a standin for Buffy not just in the underworld, but also for school visits, keeping Dad happy etc (Dad - remember him )

Seems like a flaw to me... the school must have known Buffy was dead..

I just saw the episode and I wondered about that. She would have had to have been through the system in order to be buried in the cemetary. Is it possible though that the gang had done like they did to the Master and buried her themselves? I don't recall seeing her grave surrounded by others. It looked to be off in a place all on it's own and I would have thought that she would be next to Joyce.

I am definitely going to miss Giles. He was the favorite for both myself and my husband. It isn't going to be the same with him gone.

I also got the impression that Spike blames himself for Buffy's death because he couldn't protect Dawn and keep Doc from starting the ritual.

Spike is going to take the place of 'favorite character' now that Giles is gone. I love his sense of humor and his growing humanity.

Cheers,

did anyone else notice some similarities between the spell WIllow dod her eand the spell Dawn did to try to bring back her mother? There were a few differences, like not needing a photo, but that could be because they were over Buffys grave whereas Dawn was at home when she did the spell.

They both called upon Osiris to perform the resurrection, so the procedure can't have been that much different...

So it is just Willows extra magical strangth that makes it succeed, or is it just simply a case of suspending disbelief.??

But Dawn succeeded, too.

Maybe it was the fact that everyone was kind of hoping that it succeeded and adding their own little bit of 'magic' into the mix that made it succeed when Willow was sure that it didn't.

Cheers,

you know - i wondered about that too -- why was Willow's spell so much harder to conjure than Dawn's? did it have something to do w/ how long the person had been dead? or was it just the writers needed something cool to add to the show?

and - we're not sure how 'well' Dawn's spell worked - b/c we never saw the acutal 'results' of hers ---

<shrug> -- we may never know

Well that whole episode with Dawn trying to bring Joyce back was just a kind of rip-off of The Monkey's Paw. At least that was my first thought when I saw it.

Cool

This episode and part 2 (I'm assuming) is being shown again on Sky One Sunday night 'uncut' for those peeps in Britain. Tis Buffy weekend. Can't wait to see it again and spot what may have been left out.
