I was wondering that myself. The one I read was late sixties, I think...but maybe earlier..I don't know.

u know the bit in the book where the hobbits arrive in Bree and give their names? the ones in Bored of the rings are:

Alias Undercover
Ivan Gottasecret
John Doe-smith
Ima Pseudonym

Gollum = Goddam
