I read The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings in 9th grade. Had to, for stupid book report. I liked them both, but because the last 2 books in the trilogy weren't acceptable to read for the last 2 reports, I never got around to read them.

I guess I have a year to get to them now, huh?
You really should... definately worth it..

When you first read the books you form your own opinions and interpretations about the chracters, places and events in them. The movies are based on Peter Jacksons own interpretations and once you see it it's hard not to use his views and ideas when reading the books. So it's best to form your own opinions about the trilogy before being subjected to someone elses no matter how close they may be to your own.

They said the same thing when I saw Interview with a Vampire before reading Vampire Chronicals. The only thing that the movie did to me was give me some faces to associate with the names... even though Armand should have looked like Louis, only younger. Heck, most of the cast should have been younger... Sorry, went off on a tear, there.

The movie in my mind will just be a piece of entertainment. I can't associate a movie with a book, no matter how close the two are to one another. When I see the movie or read the book for the first time, I will point out the differences, but afterwards, they really don't mean much to me.

And all I have to say is Queen of the Damned had better be a good movie.

I got an omnibus edition of the trilogy about 6 years ago. Being eleven and lazy, I found it hard-going and too slow.
Now I've read the 'Fellowship of the Ring' in 3 days, and am 1 chapter through '2 Towers'.

Cannot think what took me so long. These books are amazing!
