Like Giles' singing? Want more? AllPop Monday, November 19, 2001 'Buffy' actor to release CD Buffy addicts who love Anthony Stewart Head's "Giles" character and singing voice will soon be able to own a part of the actor. Anthony and his musical partner George Sarah are releasing a CD titled "Music For Elevators", zap2it.com reports. Fans can pre-order the album, scheduled for release early next year, and listen to sound clips online at CMH Records' website. Sarah has made appearance on "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" four times to play his music. His music has also been included on the "Buffy" spin-off, "Angel". -------------------------------------------- {PS - I checked out the website. The album will be released on February 5th and can be ordered now for $16.98. There are four mp3 clips that can be downloaded. There's also an album cover picture with Ripper leaning on a post, trying to look too, too cool. I'm getting a little old to be a music critic, but the songs are pretty good. They are lyric-heavy and kind of a cross between a ballad and soft-rock. Nothing too daring, but the lyrics are intriguing and promising. I couldn't help but think of some of Peter Gabrials softer stuff. The kind of album I like to whistle along with on long driving trips. That's the best I can do. Why don't some of you listen to the clips and record your impressions? Do we have any competent music commentators that can chime in?}

Here's an excerpt from a review of Anthony's album by Stephanie McGrath of AllPop.com ..."Music For Elevators" -- created with George Sarah, a composer, producer and apparent electronica junkie -- is the actor's foray into the music world. While most television viewers know Anthony as Giles, the bookish "watcher" on "Buffy", his original plan was to pursue a music career instead of entering the acting world. According to the album's official website, Anthony was a student at the London Academy Of Music And Dramatic Arts, and his first big role was as Jesus in a London production of "Godspell". Featuring an overwhelming amount of digital effects and lyrics (penned by Anthony) about weepy palm trees and difficult life lessons, "Music For Elevators" leaves a bizarre and slightly morose after-taste. One track, "Babies [The In Between]", discusses the guilt the actor/singer experiences because of the fact he's often away from his children. (That's one of the reasons Giles is only a recurring character on "Buffy" this season.] On another track, "This Town In The Rain", Anthony describes how depressing Los Angeles can be when there's no sun. The entire album could easily be slotted into the background of a new-agey, fantasy/sci-fi, '80s movie or ... "Buffy The Vampire Slayer", and it's the "Buffy" guest stars on the album that will probably attract fans to "Elevators". James Marsters (Spike) appears on "Owning My Mistakes", Amber Benson (Tara) guests on "All The Fun Of The Fair", while Alyson Hannigan (Willow) reportedly appears on "End Game", although the only element of the song that sounds as though it could be her is a short, spoken-word loop, "Look at the beetle on its back". Even "Buffy" mastermind Joss Whedon contributes to the album. The song "Last Time" was written by Joss and sounds similar to some of the music performed during last year's "Once More With Feeling" musical episode of "Buffy". Anthony even gives a nod to the show in the liner notes: "To Joss, the genius, for the show, for asking me to be part of it, for the great evenings where I found out everyone could sing and for the beautiful song; to so many extraordinary talented friends -- Alyson, Amber and James ...".

just got this yesterday -- and all i can say is it is AWESOME! it's well-done - and i like the music - but i like most styles of music, yeah, i'm the person who enjoys music appreciation class, and will listen to just about anything (there are a couple things i won't listen to at all) -- and i like this cd! let me tell you tho, if you're looking to hear James or Amber on the songs - don't get this - you'll be upset - they're there, but you have to listen REAL close to hear - is that a bad thing? no - the music is still excellent and it's ASH's album, not James and Amber's -- love the song "Owning my Mistakes" tho - it's great! (that's the one that James is on) and there's a cover of "We can work it out" - but don't expect John, Paul, George, and Ringo -- it's ASH's take on it- and it's nicely done as well -- i've only listened to about 1/2 of it - just got it yesterday - but i like what i've heard - and if you like the synthesizer and guitar sound -- you'll like this -- and ASH has a great voice! which is always a plus! ![]()

If you listen all the way to the end of the very last track - (forgot the track number, but the song is "Endgame") - you can hear James Marsters speaking the lyrics to "Owning My Mistakes" - it's in kind of a 'creepy' tone - but it sounds REALLY cool!
