i wonder why xander is so insistant that nobody finds out yet that he and anya are engaged? do you think maybe he's rethinking his propasal? i mean, it was kind of a heat of the moment kind of thing, but he said he really meant it and that wasn't the reason. so why doesn't he want people to know? are the writers just stalling so they can either end the first half or even the entire season with a wedding? but even so, xander would still have to have a reason. what is it?

I like your idea of a wedding finale, but I doubt it.

Besides dramatic reasons, i.e. - a tasty conflict between Xander and Anya, there are several real-life reasons for delay.

Men especially seem hesitant to make that life-long commitment and may seek any number of delays. There's a perverse psychology that says that if no one knows we're engaged then we can still change our minds. If the date hasn't been set, if the invitations haven't been mailed, if I don't show up at the wedding, etc.

But I'm looking forward to what happens when Anya's patience wears out and what lengths she might go to if she feels she has been mistreated.

anya will lose her patience. she's never been a good one for waiting for things.
