Talking Gatecon Day 2 and Day 3

Hey fellow gate-travellers,

Sept 20: Gatecon Day 2. Not much happened in the morning; just a lot of people arriving and registration. At 7:00pm was the cocktail party. Lots of finger munchies and drinks. Got caught up with people I met last year and new friends from on-line. Mingo got blonder, Lems got more philisophical, Dani brought her sister from Switzerland and Shortea is a bouncy enthusiastic fan from San Diego area. A lot of time was spent milling around. And hours later...... Alexis Cruz!!! He was worked around the room and no fan was disappointed. He is an articulate, intelligent, friendly and funny guy. I got his autograph. He told us about his on-line friends he has made through his gaming hobby. Indeed, a very gracious person.

Sept 21, Gatecon Day 3: Today we got loads more..... In the am, there were Q&A sessions with Alexis Cruz. He told us of his passion for using the arts as a means of social awareness and change, his training background, what he thought of his involvement with Stargate, the Movie and loads of other stuff. As the evening before, he came across as a very thoughtful and articulate gentleman. The next session had THREE stars: Tony Amendola, Jay Brasseau (Harlan from Tinman and Double Jeopardy) and Jay Acavone. They appeared to have a great time playing off each other on the stage as they answered a diverse number of questions. Jay Acavone was lamenting a "dry spell" in his acting gigs (none for the last 4 months), Jay Brasseau told us about his stage and film experiences and Tony Amendola had a lot of praise about his part in "Threshold".

After lunch break, we had Eric Avari, a most interesting gentleman. He has played up to 14 different nationalities in film and stage. He has worked around the world. He told about funny stuff from Stargate the Movie. In one of his scenes, the horses in the mastage costumes got frisky and the other actors ran away, but Eric was stuck to the spot with his heavy costume; and he stared down the upset horses (clydesdales-- big horses!). Then we had a very long session with our favourite dead Tok'ra, JR Bourne. He phoned his sister Kim to talk about the $6,000 raised at Sekh's Party which will be donated to research for Cystic Fibrosis. That was very touching. Then he went through some of his most recent challenging roles. Colin Cunningham came on stage..... then we had a riotously funny "Colin and JR" show. They were totally off the cuff and kidded with each other. And Colin was wearing boxers.....

The banquet was attended by Don S. Davis, Alexis Cruz, Peter Williams. There was a cute and hilarious "SG-1 radio show" as the finale.

Happy time was had by all!

Thanks for the kind words, jsc. But I live here in the Vancouver area..... More later. I just got "back" home and recovering...... <pant, pant, pant> (actually just doing my second load of laundry)

And Jay Brazeau's last name's spelling is Brazeau. Sorry for that typo above.

Glad you liked the radio show. I was part of it. Would you like to see another (bigger, better) again next year?

same here...i was way back....not among the folks who were , well there was a confusion so the banquet was delayed due to a miscommunication so i wasn't back that far but....no where near close to the stage. i could barely make out faces. and recognized a very few in the first place.
