2.22 : Becoming, Part II

Buffy is prime suspect for the murder of Kendra, but she doesn't have time to spend in custody. Willow is in a coma, and Giles is missing, so Buffy determined she must face Angel alone. But she gets help from an unexpected source. A still weak Willow attempts the restoration once more, as Buffy and Angel face off one last time.

Oh this is sucha a great episode.
I watched it again last night...its a good one.
I feel so sorry for Buffy...being told by her mum to not come back, being kicked out of school and having to kill Angel even though Willow managed to do the spell.
Poor Buffy..I felt so sorry for her

powerful scenes indeed, when she realises her Angel is back, but she has to kill him anyway..the most poingant scenes in the show, until the S5 stuff with her mom, which is not to be discussed in here
Also the first glimpse of another side to Spike here, as he teams up with Buffy to save Dru, and protect his supply of "happy meals"

okay- question -- when Spike grabs Dru to take her out of Sunnydale - he wraps his arm around her neck to 'cut off her air' (i suppose) but vampires don't breathe - so, what exactly does that do? why does she pass out from lack of 'oxygen'? she doesn't breathe --

is this a continuity goof, or could the writers just not come up with anything else? (which i hope isn't the case) --

this just struck me as a bit odd, considering vamps don't need to breathe, so cutting off their air supply wouldn't hurt them, or make them pass out ----

just a thought -------

And their hearts don't beat, so you can't cut off the circulation of blood to the brain.

(and don't ask me how i missed this thread for so long - it's not sticky'd like the others)

and that still doesn't say why Dru passed out when Spike put his arm around her neck --

oh well --

Okay - weird continuity goof aside -

This is, hands down, one of the best episodes of BtVS - and one of like 2 that can still make me almost cry (and, depending on the day - actually make me cry) -- the way it's written and the way the actors throw so much into the emotion of the scenes - it just works so well...

And not just Buffy and Angel --

Joyce at the end with the note from Buffy -- a very poignant scene - and shows that she didn't really mean for Buffy to not come back... though Buffy took her literally and didn't...

Great writing, great acting... and most of all --- all of the characters have a part of the story to carry -- that is the A-#1 most important thing for these episodes to work well -- if you look through, all of the 'best' episodes, more often than not, will have 'ensemble' stories to them --- every character involved in the story... it's really important - too bad some writers never realize this.

Yep, this was definitely a very good episode. It kept me riveted throughout, and the cliffhanger ending left me very much wanting to watch the third season (which I shall do soon). Having already known that the Mayor will be the major villian of Season Three, it was chilling but cool to hear Principal Snyder reference him. Buffy's confrontation with Joyce and Angel's "death" were the most poignant moments for me, and Buffy leaving Sunnydale was also a bummer.

Re: 2.22: Becoming, Part II

This is one of my favorite if not my favorite episode of Buffy of all times. I can remember my parents walking in the door a minute after that episode aired to find me sobbing.

The whole fight with her mother and then the scene with angel right before he is sucked into hell were wonderfully sad but the best scene from the entire episode was Buffy looking at her friends and leaving town with them all sitting there saying that she would be there soon. And the music in this ep was wonderful. Okay time to re-revert to being a 13/14 year old girl again to an adult.

Yeah - this is one of the best season closers for the series.

Wonder what would've happened if Acathla had been 'open' a little longer...

Re: 2.22: Becoming, Part II

Season 2 of Buffy is probably my favorite season. Pretty from the moment that Angel loses his soul onwards the show just hit home run after home run. I watched this while I was still living in the UK and the realization of how long it would be before I got to see season 3 hit me hard with that ending.

It's not a true cliffhanger, but in many way's it's far more emotionally powerful.

Yeah it is, even with me knowing what happens I still get into that episode everytime it is shown on TV like it is the first time I watched it

Re: 2.22: Becoming, Part II

I watched these 2 eps the other night and it STILL makes me cry, Joyce was also brilliant in that she behaved soo like a mother would and you just know she didn't mean it and killing Angel just as he got his soul back...sob!!

One day I will grow up.....not!!
