Post 3.14 : Bad Girls

There's a new watcher in town, and he's not popular. Unfortunately he's not evil either. Buffy faces Balthazar, and Faith has a life-changing experience.

I tell you what, that teacher wasn't the most observant in the world. First Buffy keeps talking to Xander and Willow after she hands out the tests, and then she doesn't notice Faith or Buffy crawling through the window to get out. Bad teacher.

Cheers,

yeah - that too --

i don't know about you - but 90% of the teachers i had in school - had vampire-like hearing - and if you even breathed too loud during a test they were on you like a hawk - making sure you weren't trying to cheat ----

and sneaking out? what is this - saved by the bell? did they clap their hands or say 'time out' then 'time in' once they'd moved?

hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

i think she was just getting ready for class to start and she was just distracted for the minute it took Buffy to climb out the window..and what was with that heart that Faith drew on the window?

yeah - i didn't get that either - unless that was Faith pokin' fun at Buffy about Angel -

and i dunno why Buffy would NOW care about the 'honour code' - she's left school before - tho that was generally for 'slayer' reasons and not - 'sneak out of school to play hookie' reasons --

ooh - do i spot a slasher among the group here??

not to worry if you are -- all are accepted --

even the anti-shippers/anti-slashers - like me!

so come one, come all - slashers, shippers, anti's - everyone -

i think there are a few pieces of fic in the BTVS fanfic section - dunno what they all cover - but you can take a look -

this episode - like the idea - Buffy trying on the 'bad' side -- but she's still got that 'hero' bit -- so - she doesn't go all the way --

I thought it was Faith drawing a vampire heart and then a stake through it meaning that she wanted Buffy to go out slaying with her.

I thought this episode was a little flat, it had a fairly good plot, I just can't put my finger on why I didn't like it that much.

I'd forgotten how much I like this episode! Wesley was so dorky when he first arrived, and the dialogue between him, Buffy and Giles is hilarious. So many memorable lines, so little time... so here are a few of my faves.

Wesley: I have, in fact, faced two vampires myself. Under controlled circumstances, of course.
Giles: No danger of finding those here.
Wesley: Vampires?
Giles: Controlled circumstances.

Buffy: Is he evil?
Giles: Not in the strictest sense.

Wesley: Are you not used to being given orders?
Buffy: Whenever Giles sends me on a mission, he always says "please." And afterwards I get a cookie.

Giles: Knock yourself out. Please?

Wesley: Remember the three key words for any Slayer: preparation... preparation... preparation.
Buffy: That's one word three times.

Wesley: Stay calm, Mr. Giles. We have to stay calm.
Giles: Well, thank God you're here. I was planning to panic.

The thing about this episode is, I love all the Wesley/Buffy/Giles scenes, but I can never seem to remember any details from the rest of the ep. Maybe its because it's a Faith-orientated ep, and I just can't make myself like her. But the rest of the ep stays in my head as "girl-power, blah blah, disgusting fat demon, blah blah, more girl-power, blah blah..." - you get the picture.

I like the scene in the warehouse -

Balthazar: THE MAN WHO HAS MY AMULET! WHAT IS HIS NAAAME?!
Angel: His name is Angel.

- very cool. And Giles with a sword - always cool.
But one thing I didn't like about the scene was Balthazar's death. Why did he have to make a whole speech between getting electrocuted and actually dying? Just seemed unnecessary. And what was with the whole "When he rises... you'll wish I'd killed you all"? I'm guessing he was talking about the Mayor, but how would he know about that?

And as for the heart on the window, I think that was supposed to be a heart with a stake through it. As in code for "We have trouble of the vampiric kind". It wouldn't have been very stealthy to yell, "Vampires" through the window. And a "fist movement" - wouldn't that look a lot worse than the heart? :naughty:

Balthazaar giving a speech between electrocution and death -- kinda reminds me of Hamlet -- an evil Hamlet, but Hamlet none-the-less ---

Hamlet was mortally wounded - poisoned, I think - and gave this long-winded speech about something before he finally died...

I think it's supposed to be 'drama' - but - it doesn't always work.

(I don't think there's director commentary on this ep, so not sure if we'll get an answer on that one.)

The heart on the window --- coulda just been Faith being goofy - dunno - I'll have to watch again to see what she does...
