3.08 : Lovers Walk

Willow trys to control her feelings for Xander, and Spike is back in town, but not looking too good.

I think this was the first episode where I thought I could really start liking Spike. After he's kidnapped Willow and Xander and he starts to tell Willow about what happened with Dru, it was so ... I don't want to say pitiful but that's the word that springs to mind.

Whatever anyone says about him, he's always been pretty perceptive. IMHO anyway. His observations about Buffy and Angel in this ep were right on even though they couldn't see it themselves.

Cheers,

actually - Spike is very perceptive and is usually right about a lot of things -- he sees a lot of stuff that the rest of the 'cast' doesn't see --- they'll all be jabbering on and Spike will come in and point out the big glaring thing they looked over 100 x's ---

he's brutally honest on most points -- which i love -- and he's Spike - what more can ya say??

Plus he just says it ... even if it is going to get him a bunch of dirty looks or comments. Which it usually does.

Cheers,

exactly -- ref: the scene in the magic shop while they're looking for the ingredients for the love spell -- he tells Angel and Buffy about their 'friendship' -- the 'Love's B*tch' speech -- and they refuse to believe him -- he's right tho --- (keep watching season 3 - it comes up - sort of) --

later on - in season 5 - he's right about other things too - specifically things about Buffy ----

Continuing w/ the tradition ---

Lines cut from "Lover's Walk"

Quote:
Spike: <singing> And more / Much more than this / I did it my way
Not really sure why they cut this, but they did –
I like it - mostly b/c I like to hear Spike sing, but it's a 'mood setter' - sets up a little bit - and it 'opens' the Spike stuff in much the way that it's closed -- w/ "My Way" ----

I think some part of this was cut:

Quote:
Joyce: Carnegie Mellon has a wonderful design curriculum. Oh, and Brown
University's history program is... You like history, right?

Buffy: Could we talk about this another time? All day it's been like, 'Congratulations! Go away.'
I think the 'congratulations. Go away' part was cut – but I'm not 100% on that.

This is missing too:

Quote:
Spike spots what he's looking for.

Spike: Hmm! (grabs the bottle) Eye of rat.
No, it's not big, but it 'closes' the scene – makes it more complete – and it's very 'Buffy' –

Quote:
Willow: You were real brave. Do you need to barf?

Xander: No, I'll be okay. (looks around) Where are we?
I think the 'do you need to barf' and 'no, I'll be okay' bits were taken out –

Again – removing something that is 'classic Buffy' –

Oh – and this, that makes a later bit of Spike dialogue make much more sense:

Quote:
Lenny: Yeah. I heard you'd gone soft. Sad to see it, man.

Spike: (incredulous) Soft?

Lenny: Yeah, like baby food.

Behind Spike the vampire he'd been fighting gets up.

Spike: (smiling) Well, then, let's give baby a taste.
This makes the 'baby like his supper' lines later make a bit more sense – b/c I was REALLY confused when I saw it the first time – kind of a 'why did Spike say that?' thing – grrr syndication

Again, not a 'lot' is necessarily cut, but some of the lines are funny, or help 'clear up' lines later. A lot of work goes into these shows and the scripts, and the stuff they cut, to whomever is doing the cutting, may not 'seem' important, but they really are. (Or do the Mutant Enemy people do the cutting? Either way – it's still stupid) – not to mention they've only cut about 90 seconds. Sure, that's 3 commercials, but commercials for what? Cars you can't afford? Frozen meals you wouldn't touch w/ a 12-foot pole and protective clothing? A television program you wouldn't watch if someone paid you? The commercials, to me, aren't exciting. Sure they pay the bills, but don't they work better if they're selling something you want to buy?
