3.07 : Revelations

Faith's new watcher is not what she seems, and Angel is no longer Buffy's secret.

watched this one tonite -- (seen it before tho)

some of the reactions from some of the characters were very 'knee-jerk' - not that that's bad, just some were a little abrupt --

one more thing -- why was Giles so quick to assume that this new watcher was everything she said she was? so many years in Sunnydale and he doesn't check references?? (just struck me as odd -- or is he 'out of the loop' of the watchers by this time?)

and is Faith the most fickle chic on the planet or what?? she's all 'friendly' sort w/ Buffy, then hear about Angel and turns on everyone to go after him -- i know she's got her own ways, but she changes sides too much ----

I think Giles is on auto-pilot at this time when it comes to the Watcher Council ... trust them no matter what. I can understand why he didn't really check her out. He's already informed the council about Faith and gotten a reply from them about him being her watcher until they can find her a new one. She was pretty proper English, too.

Does it seem to anyone else that Giles gets hit on the head a lot?

As for Faith ... well she's someone who goes through so many changes that it's sometimes difficult to see where they are all coming from. Besides she had the fake Watcher lady, filling her head with stuff ... you know she mentioned how everyone was having a meeting or something making it seem like that now that Faith had her own Watcher, she wasn't part of the group any longer and I think being a part of something is very important to Faith.

Cheers,

yes - the new watcher was pretty proper - but i dunno - there was something about her i didn't like -- (*I* would have checked her out -- but i'm a bit more suspicious than Giles)

and yeah - Giles gets hit on the head - A LOT! poor man is gonna have some form of brain damage if they don't stop - oh - well, at least he doesn't get amnesia each time he gets hit like MacGyver always did ----

and Faith -- yes - she wants to belong, but she's quick to judge - she immediately believed what the watcher chic was telling her - she never bothered to see if it was true -- didn't Giles or someone ask where Faith was in one of the 'briefings'??
and Faith is kind of 'out' of the group - she doesn't go to school, so she's not around w/ the rest of them -- it's easy for Oz, Willow, Xander, Buffy, and Giles to all meet up - they're all at the school all day --- but Faith - she's out in that hotel all the time -- if she'd just go to school - there'd be fewer problems -- she'd be 'in' the group --- so, some of the fault is hers ---

All my humble opinion ...

I think you have to look at Faith's background in order to understand how she feels and thinks. It doesn't sound to me as if she had the most stable of family life growing up. I got the feeling she'd been on her own for some time before being called as a slayer. Probably has had more than her fair share of rejection and dismissal and so sees that as something that people do. However she very strongly needs to feel accepted and needed and when the group of people who have let her in suddenly, in her mind, push her away she's ready to believe whatever she's told by her new watcher. Besides why would her new watcher lie to her.

Cheers,

right - i understand that her upbringing was probably not the most healthy -- (she mentions stuff in a later episode - "Enemies" i think) -- but, and i guess this is the "MacGyver" side of me here, she has the 'power' (if you will) to change her life - she could FIX the things that are 'broken' -- problem is - she may not seem them as 'broken' - and she isn't really the nicest person as it is - as evidenced by what she does later in season 3 --

i still think that Faith could include herself more -- it's like she tries for about 5 minutes, then gives up --- Buffy tries to be nice to her, and Xander was drooling over her, they did try to let her in, but Faith, i think, has problems w/ inter-personal relationships -- i think she has a hard time trusting ppl and letting them in - she talks big, but she really just wants the same things as everyone else - her problem is that she goes about getting them the wrong way ----

(did that make any sense??)

Sure it does. I sometimes wonder, as evidenced by later eps, that she just hasn't given up. Buffy throughout, tries to make her understand that she isn't alone but is rebuffed in her attempts. I also wonder if she doesn't see needing others as a weakness ... maybe that was spoon fed to her by her parents or some other adult role model she had.

Cheers,

This ep was a good one...Faith goes all pissy and wants to kill Angel......my theory is she gets all defensive and wants to kill him cause she wants Buffy all to herself...Buffy is the only one who is really close to her and she doesn't want to lose her to Angel...Faith has a soft side it's just hidden most of the time...
